Seems like a weird selection to me.

Really weird, but it beats the other two finalists: "Land Sharks" and "Hotty Toddy".

From my understanding, they're just changing the on-field mascot and not the actual nickname...they'll still be known as the Ole Miss Rebels just not have what should still be there in Colonel Reb. I'm just glad they didn't go with that hideous, monstrosity of a on-field mascot of Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars.

I like it. I think it was a classy move by them to go away from the Colonel Reb mascot a few years ago, and I think the Bear is something that is unique to the SEC and south in general.

Hotty Toddy is just terrible. Land Sharks maybe, but not Rebel Land Sharks. Rebel Black Bears, ok I guess so.

It was until George Lucas sent a letter that laid the smack down on it. None of this thrills me I must say though. My boss went through the roof about it today.
