Dlbdonn
So since NCC's students come from all over the county and the children's parents pay taxes to various school districts, which stadium would they be entitled to play on? One day they are going to play in their own until then they will continue playing and paying to play at Newport Stadium as they have been for the last 60 years . Plans are afoot . goford
Having a stadium on campus is huge in terms of having a winning football program. I know this would be an economical type decision, but if they truly care about football, they would build a stadium on campus. Getting on a bus to go to home games is very difficult for the players and coaches. Its just like playing 10 straight away games. The stadium should be the focal point of a high school campus. I know CC players don't get to practice on the field they play their games on. And thats really sad. I do think if the private sector got involved, Campbell Co would raise all the $ and they would have a stadium on campus very quickly. Its a beautiful campus out there in Alex. and a new, high tech stadium would really make CC a first class facility. Just my thoughts.
clutch0011
Ok, I don't understand all the talk between Brossart and Campbell on this post. First of all I am a CCHS grad. I see no reason to not allow Brossart to use the football field when the CCHS is not using it. If they want to play on that pile of crap field, let them. There has been a lot of money spent on that field, most of them stupid ideas that never worked. There has also been money offered up to pay for turf on that field but "some people" decided it was not a good idea because the donor wanted the field to be open to all youth sports when it was not in use by the high school or middle school (see Highlands). People keep saying that the board has not cared about the football program in years, where is this coming from? If anything most people in the County care about football too much. When was the last time the football team had any success? They have some talented players year in and year out but nothing to show for it. There are other sports at CCHS that have had more success than that football program over the last 10 years. Why is this just being stated as a new football field? Why can't the girls or boys soccer programs use the fields for district or regional tournaments or when the weather doesn't work out for natural surface. Yes, the baseball, softball, and soccer programs all have nice fields out there on campus and I am not against the football team receiving a new stadium but lets open it up so it can have more use that just a "football stadium". By the way, ask the lady who is in charge of the fields in Campbell County about the million dollars spent on that joke of a field up there over the last 10 or so years. She could have already paid for a turf field.
Clyde
Clyde, I have a question, I know you are against the use of tax money for projects such as this. I think I have read you say it before. But, what is the difference in building an elaborate gym with tax money and building a new football complex with tax money? You may feel the same about both, just wondering because I know there are some very expensive gyms out there, heck we have one. What's your thoughts? I'm not against tax money being spent at any time. I'm not sure if it's a wise investment right now for a football field. I think if there is any part of a school including athletic facilities that simply is inoperable or dangerous then it has to be looked into. I don't think CC's football field falls under either. To me it's a "nice to have" vs a "must have." Is it costing them more money now than it would be to spend $$$ on a new field? If not then I don't think it's wise in these economic times. That would be the same for a gym, a lunchroom, a science room, or a whole new school. I'm an ROI guy. If it's there then it should be considered. I don't think there's an ROI here. School Yard
CC needs a new field but certainly not a new facility. It's a great place to watch a game. Brossart could also play there and help pay for the field by the rent they'll pay. What's the problem?

Please. A stadium on campus has zero impact on a team's ability to be a "winning program." Unless schools have turf, NO teams get to practice on the game field. Why would they? Sad? Come on. I think your arguments fail to overcome the cost of such a project.
Reis Alex
No way in the current economic climate should tax dollars be used to build a new stadium unless everyone is permitted to use it public and private alike . Once again, I feel as though this is a ridiculous argument. Privates have no right to use public facilities. If you want a child to be able to use your local public school's facility, they should attend the public school. Otherwise, private schools should pay to use the facilities and it should be up to the district to decide to let them.

If a private school wants to use a public school's field rent or a reasonable fee should be assessed . This is what I meant by permitted .

Reis Alex
There are better ways to spend tax money . If you want a new stadium raise the money through private funding or donations . I disagree. Tax money is raised and spent on schools. A stadium is part of a school, and something that I think schools should have on sight.

I think your arguments fail to overcome the cost of such a project. I was on the first team at CCHS that had to do this and I will say it was very different, maybe not difficult but it does give you the feeling of never really having a home game. I'd say a program can still be a winning program (see NCC) without one but it sure increases the level of difficulty. One thing is for sure is the Campbell county needs turf if nothing else. RomanEmpire
Why wasn't a football stadium part of the original blueprint plan? Seems odd to build that wonderful new campus and omit a football stadium, doesn't it?
Clyde
I saw a picture of a soccer game played at Boone County yesterday. I'm not sure whose field is worse between CC and Boone but the picture made it look like the game was being played on a patch of dirt in Nicaragua. Actually, with the youth league not playing on the game field and the lack of rain (no muddy games on the field) Campbell County's field is probably in the best shape it has been in the past 4 or 5 years.
