In truth, how many managers were lined up for this job? While I know they made the playoffs, the roster was an odd mix that was ultimatelyy decimated by injuries. Are prospects high for Atlanta in the next few years? Following a legend is never easy and Gonzalez might just be a temporary fix that will be let go in a couple years to be replaced with a more seasoned skipper.

You obviously don't know because Pendelton was never made to believe he was next in line for the job and if you can find one thing saying other wise then I'll become a Reds fan. Maybe it was just dark spots on my TV, but it sure looked like there were a lot of empty seats in the upper deck down the right field line in Atlanta for Game 4. Again, I could be wrong and the darkness was fooling me. But the precedent for that was set a couple years ago when they played the Cubs and didn't sell out their home playoff games.

I'm a Braves fan, have friends who work in the org., no deep connections though. TP has been talked to for manager jobs and turned them down, not many but some.

Braves manager Bobby Cox remains under contract through the end of the 2007 season and could possibly remain in that role even longer. But whenever he chooses to retire, Pendleton will likely be one of the top candidates for the vacated position.

Where was it made obvious to those outside that he was next in line? I've never seen ANYTHING indicating that.

I don't think TP was in line for the manager job nor do I think he did a very good job as batting coach.

I have read before that some people looked at Pendleton as the heir apparent. If he was, the Braves' hitting problems certainly didn't help his cause.
