October 14, 201016 yr At some point they have to sign a few of them to long term deal. Have all them arbitration eligible at the same time is not a good thing.
October 14, 201016 yr People say in St. Louis that if they can't sign Albert they would want to trade him. Anyone think the Reds would ever consider trading Votto if they knew they weren't going to sign him?

October 14, 201016 yr Yes. Next year they could go to Washington and get Zimmerman and Desmond. 3rd and SS are then settled for awhile with Alonso at 1B.

IMO the team will go backwards next year if Votto is not in the lineup and Alonso is. So the Reds need to make sure that the long-term gains are worth it if they feel that can't sign Joey V.

Zimmerman is a year younger than Votto and a top-flight defensive third baseman.

Zimmerman will get paid 8.9, 12, and 14 million dollars the next three years. Financially (which is the reason the Reds would trade Votto) that trade wouldn't make much sense.

October 14, 201016 yr I don't see the Reds trading Votto for Zimmerman. I give it a 0.0% chance that either team would do that trade.

Financially (which is the reason the Reds would trade Votto) that trade wouldn't make much sense. Zimmerman isn't as good as Votto. Votto is the NL MVP. The only reason you do trade him is because IF he isn't going to sign long in Cincy. I just said IF.

I thought they were in need of a 1st baseman so I just threw it out there. Plus they have another stud SS behind Desmond. Obviously it wouldn't be straight up, but I thought those were legit centerpieces. Didn't know we had a bunch of GM's in here. Was just trying to throw ideas out there. Sorry for my stupid on a discussion board.
