The state-titles-in-other-sports theme comes out after bad X losses just as certainly as summer follows spring. I'm surprised it took so long this time.

 

Usually you get hit with both the LARGE DISPARITY in both state-titles-in-other sports and number-of-National Merit Semi-Finalists, so I think you got off easy this time. :lol:

Maybe I missed the posts that say X has had a landslide of talent. I think the sentiment on this site and in the media in general is that X was favored in some years in which they failed to close the deal in the second meeting. Seems to me that the overall talent level has been pretty even over the last decade, though I think adjustments in personnel and scheming favored Trinity as the seasons wore on. Having said that, anyone who knows football and saw the game last Friday would be hard-pressed to say that there was more talent on X's side of the ball.

I think X is the one that got off easy. The only thing saving Glaser from 60-0 was a running clock. Congrats on swimming and golf. We'll take wrestling championships and National powerlifting titles. Our basketball team did fairly well too as I recall. Can you say King of the Bluegrass, Republic Bank etc,etc. Nice try though. Next.

Absolutely not true about about "trading a 4-6 titles "cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse, swimming, and rugby. The term you used is "I believe". That's your point of view. Alan and Peter believe differently than that. It's all in how your measure success. Understand that as a St Xavier student athlete, you can be the second string or even first string on the football team or win a state title in another sport. That's a level of competition that no other school has within the halls for the athletes that are there. (I am not saying there isn't some competition in other schools! )Does Beatty have to compete with fall baseball with a potential starting QB like Glaser did this year? Don't get into a discussion of division 1 scholarships with the cross country coach Medley or soccer coach Schulten!

 

Sticking to this topic- Is Trinity Coach Szabo and the Trinity Lacrosse coach not a success because they brought the number 1 ranked teams into the post season last season and lost? Were they out coached by the Male Basketball coach in the regional? Male had a losing record going into tournament. Was Coach Belicheck from New England being discussed from him being replaced when he took an undefeated 17-0 and more talented team and lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl?

 

Glaser coaches football players from freshmen year to the end of the senior year in football. The bonus you get with Coach is he doesn't stop coaching life skills on the Sunday after the state championship.

^^^ That is actually a very good and fair post. To quote my best friend, "It is what it is".

And this I have seen in person: Beatty does not like Glaser, though he harbors no animosity towards X in general. Glaser does not like Beatty, AND he does not like Trinity in general - Glaser, IMO, believes he is BETTER than Trinity. I've heard Glaser speak to 8th graders and talk in a condescending manner about Trinity. I've also heard Beatty talk to 8th graders and he doesn't even mention X.

 

 

I have been around Coach Beatty a lot more than Coach Glaser but my experience would confirm what you say. Coach Glaser takes every chance he can to run down Trinity. Coach Beatty doesn't mention X. I will take it a step farther. Rob Mullin (Trinity President) issues strict instructions to those going out to speak to potential students. They are not to speak ill of any other school, including X. If someone asks for a comparison, the instructions are to defer and speak only about Trinity. I am shocked sometimes that the X administration doesn't have the same policy, but maybe that is one more reason that I like Trinity so much more than X.

Call me crazy here, but I'm fairly sure that the players, parents, and coaches of these "other sports", and the students, parents, and teachers of the academically gifted might just argue that their sports or academics are just as important as football. I'm sure that at some of the schools on here are really just quite happy and thrilled to learn that outside of football, nothing else matters.
