The Rebels are a team that was within a play or two of Trinity and X back in the day. Now they are terrible. Is it a lack of talent? Two new schools in Boone County? Coaching? Lack of administrative support? Something else?

Your key part of the question there was "back in the day." I haven't been to many Boone games in sometime, but I'm assuming the coaching there is still trying to pound the ball down there opponents throats. In today's football that isn't going to work, unless your line is absolutely dominant. Boone, in years past, got away with this, because that's how football was played. In today's game you can not be that one-dimensional. There has to be balance in the offense, and they pack that big time. As far as the other schools opening up in the district, Boone is still a 6A school, so they couldn't have lost all their athletes. They still have a lot of young men roaming those hallways; so I believe that is just an excuse for people to use because the coaching fails to adapt to the new generation of football.

The lack of athletes apparently is still present, just look at their basketball and baseball programs. No way the addition of two additional schools doesn't thin the talent pool a bit but those two schools are in the burbs. Tell me this, where did kids from Union go to school prior to Ryle?

The reason there is new schools is because there is population growth. Boone still has a large enrollment, hence they are in 6A. How many teams in Northern Kentucky have a signed d-1 player like Boone has in Trevan Brown? At some point, it is obvious what the issue is, and people have been saying it for years. At this point the Rebels are at best the third best program out of four in the county, and quite honestly, there is not a great team in the bunch. (Yes I just watched Ryle last night-and was very disapointed in their defense.)

Boone doesn't have the team speed that other teams like Highlands has. Speed kills in football. Their basketball team has been good the last few years, but I think it will be on its way back down again soon. Boone is almost like an inner city school now. No new housing developments in the area. All of the new subdivisions are in Ryle, Cooper, and Conner's areas. When people move in or to Boone County, they go to those places.

I agree with that to some point....The main reason for this is COACHING. I have a relative at Boone COunty and their are athletes there just as many at ryle..The one difference is coaching and the scheme they are running. There are kids at that school that are known players that will not go out for football because of the mess Thompson has made there. Use what you got, you put your son at qb that has no business playing that position. Boone will not gain respect until they fire Thompson and bring someone in that people are excited about. `You will not be successful running the ball 95% of the time while the other team is scoring points quickly and it takes Boone 8 minutes to get in the Red zone.

They need a whole new offensive philosophy, but not sure whether this will occur under Thompson or not.

It simple, its just a down year or two. The Rebels are just having a down year after loosing talent the past two years. They have the bases for a good program and they will be back after the cycle. Just my guess.

Before you cry too much most of those kids came from Conner and that's why Conner will be 5A starting next year. Conner lost at least a third of their sophomore athletes 3 years ago and now these kids are 3 year starts at Cooper. Boone hardly got touched with the new school, period. They got beat by Conner last night whom have lost more then Boone so the excuse doesnt fly. Its just a down year and the coaching doesnt match their players abilities. Stop there run and you stop them. The Rebels threw 6 passes last night and completed only 3 with 2 interception. Conner's LBs were up to the task of stopping Oppenheimer and that's all it takes. By the way Jordan O is a stud and its a shame that he is having a tough senior year. He has worked his butt off every year to have to suffer a senior season like this is tough for him l bet.

Can you explain? Do they have a great passing QB and Recievers that are not being used? They look like a running team to me with the big line and good RBs. They need to throw the ball more not doubt but I didnt think they had the personel to be a real throwing team. What do you think they should be running on offense? That is a serious question I am not at many Boone County games so I am asking you what you think they should be running on offense?

I have been to several BC games and from what I have heard from players and other coaches on the team is there is a JV qb that is able to throw the ball better than the current one. You can't keep running the same offense with the same results. Not to mention your RB running the ball 36 times a game risking injury when the run game isnt producing. Look at the other teams around the county, who is running an offense like the rebels? None, everyone is in the spread, if you choose to run the ball out of the spread you are able to spread out the defense and show a threat to pass. This will open up running lanes . Don't run double tight power over and over again and allow the defense to stack 9 men in the box and you as a coach being to bull headed to change.

I agree with you, I feel for the Jordan kid, the kid is a stud. It's a shame he has to indure this his senior year.

It's the "Hot Tub Time Machine" Offense, the same thing over and over. The talent is there, you have one of the better TE in the area and he never gets used to his ability. New QB and spread everything out, then when Opp. gets a lane he will run people over. It's a shame and very frustrating. 3rd and long and you run a QB sneak or QB draw, the only reason the QB scored last night was because it was a broken play and Opp. threw a great block to set him free. Boone may not win another game unless some personel changes are made.

Resisting or refusing change will cause any team to fail. Same input = same results. It's easy for a defense to prepare for a 1 dimensional offense. Either make changes or expect the outcome to remain the same.
