September 30, 201015 yr Sweet or not? It only seems fitting to have a cornbread thread to go with the Pinto beans thread.
September 30, 201015 yr Not sweet. Sweet cornbread is odd and not the way it was intended to be made.
September 30, 201015 yr Author I love, LOVE, LOVE plain ole, unsweetened cornbread right out of the oven slathered with fresh real butter. That is like heaven on a plate. Especially if you let it sit for a bit and the butter seeps down and saturates the crust! Yeah...my heart probably isn't in the best of health, but dang...!
September 30, 201015 yr Sweet Corn Bread is outstanding, that is if you tasted my Daughters Sweet Corn Bread! :jump::notworthy::thumb: She as a ten year old, won a Blue Ribbon at the Boone County 4-H UTOPIA Fair in the "adult division." Her secret? She uses Honey! The Honey keeps the Corn Bread moist and gives the Corn Bread a very nice sweet flavor! It is a family tradition, requirement that she makes her Sweet Corn Bread for Thanksgiving and Christmas diners for me and her Uncles.

I like sweetened cornbread, but to I love it when the butter is seeping through the warm bread! Just talking about it is making my mouth water.
September 30, 201015 yr I actually like both...but if forced I will go with unsweetened. I'm drawing a blank on where it was but I had some jalapeno corn bread at a restaurant not too long ago and it was great!
October 1, 201015 yr I like the sweet kind when you get it before a meal, but prefer the non-sweet variety for eating with other foods. Best cornbread I ever had was served at The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge.
October 1, 201015 yr I make mine with cornmeal that my dad would grind at the mill. I wouldn't sift it, we like the nutty texture it gives. Also make mine in a cast iron skillet. YUM!!!
October 1, 201015 yr I like cornbread made with a little bit of sugar, maybe 1/3 cup. Last time we had cornbread it was served in a restaurant and it was so salty it was gross. Our Aunt even said it was too salty and she is a southern cook.
October 1, 201015 yr Give me a pork roast, with potatoes cooked right with the meat, some collard or turnip greens, and an iron skillet of Mrs. S plain old fashion cornbread, and I'm in heaven. Mrs. S makes cornbread at least once a week. If I eat cornbread with sugar in it, it would have to be for desert or be a Johnny cake for breakfast.
October 1, 201015 yr Always make extra, because my husband loves to eat cornbread and milk. He takes the cronbread, crumbles it up in a glass and pours milk over it. Eats it with a spoon.

October 1, 201015 yr I've had this debate with my fiancé and her family very recently. I'm guessing sweet cornbread is a northern thing, cause her mom who's from Michigan loves sweet, her dad being from KY likes unsweetened, and she who's always lived in KY said "it's alright, but I'd rather have regular." I'm from Mississippi and I could eat an entire skillet of sweet cornbread!
October 1, 201015 yr I love cornbread the way my momma cooks it and all, but at family get togethers my aunt always makes a cornbread-ish this with corn actually in it. If I had only two foods to live on on a deserted island it would be my aunts corn bread and cheez its.
