We had pinned our hopes on Russellville being granted a change of class, but they will probably not be granted a jump of 2 classes as they have requested.

 

I'd say you are right about Russellville. I felt like they would petition to play up; the problem is that if Russellville moved out of 1A there still isn't anyone to put into that far-western district with Mayfield, Fulton City, and Fulton County. And I don't think the KHSAA would want to set the precedent of bumping Ballard Memorial down (which would work) while passing up two teams in Clinton County and Bishop Brossart.

I heard that 3 schools were allowed to play up and that none of them were in the western end of the state.

 

If this is indeed true and I had to throw out a guess as to who the 3 schools are, I would say: Cooper and Lexington Catholic to 5A and Somerset to 3A.

I don't have any other info as to which schools are going to be allowed to play up. I think the KHSAA was pretty adamant about not letting very many schools change classes. You really had to prove a geographic hardship.

Somerset as far as I know did not petition to move up from 2A. They may have, but I haven't heard any talk about moving up.

I think it could go a couple ways. They could find themselves with the likes of Clinton County, Middlesboro, and Leslie County. Or they could be with Glasgow, Green County, and Metcalfe County. Or they might even end up with Bardstown and Danville.

If Cooper is moved up, that would almost assuredly put them with Conner, Scott High, and Grant County. That would seem to almost guarantee Harrison County and Pendleton County will be with Highlands, Holmes, and Covington Catholic.

Heard from a reliale source that Louisville Central has petitioned to move up to 4A with other Louisville 4A schools like Waggener, Valley, Fairdale, Western, etc. Which, would make very good sense for them and still give them a great shot at making it to the finals as they would in 3A, so long they stay in the west, away from Highlands, LexCath, Boyle and those guys.

If true, that move would make sense. But while I believe Central could certainly compete in 4A, they would have a hard time proving a geographical hardship. Elizabethtown, Larue County, Henry County, and Western Hills are all fairly close to Louisville; not as close as the other Jefferson County schools, but probably not far enough away to get moved.

That would be dumb by Central they could win every title for the next few years in 3a, but in 4a not so much.

I dont know about every title. Ft. Campbell, Paducah Tilghman and maybe a surprise one or two from the west would have a lot to say about who represents that side of the state in the finals. Also, don't forget Bell County, Belfry and Corbin in the east. It wont be the cakewalk you might think.

Never thought about Bell County, they will be probably the team to beat in the new 3a, but I think the west would still be Central most years. PT, and Ft. Campbell will have thier up years though I agree. I think Bell County could handle the Central championship teams we have seen thus far.

I heard the final alignment numbers will be out October 18th.
