Final Classification Numbers Issued Tomorrow?

Featured Replies

An article in the Danville Advocate this morning included a conversation between Larry Vaught and Julian Tackett about the upcoming classification for football. It appears the final information on who asked to play up and who was confirmed will become available tomorrow, with final district alignments announced later in October. I thought some of Tackett's answers were interesting.

Sounds like Boyle County and Lexington Catholic will not be moving up if they only moved teams up based on geography.

Who is the second year school? Muhlenberg County I guess?

I can't wait to see how it all shakes out...

Might be Collins since they only have one year of enrollment numbers. Muhlenberg County was a consolidation, so they could probably just add Muhlenberg North and South together for their 2008 enrollment.

What time will the info be released?

No clue, but you would have to think after lunch. My guess is they are meeting this morning.

Haven't seen anything. I'm assuming it will be on the KHSAA site and probably the Herald site too, as they are usually pretty good about high school sports. But I don't know when to expect to final information.

I was thinking it could be Cooper, since they have a legitimate argument to move to 5A. I hope their request is granted.

Legitimate argument being? That their enrollment is meant more for that class?

Honestly, if Highlands weren't in 4A, could you ever see them making that request?

Not sure we are comparing apples to apples here. Cooper is a new school that had some "misleading" enrollment numbers when they opened. This was due to the fact that seniors to be who were supposed to attend Cooper the first year they opened were given the option of finishing their high school careers at their current school, which made a lot of sense. You don't want a kid to have to change high schools their senior year.

As far as Highlands goes, they are a very established school with very reliable enrollment numbers and should be classed where their enrollment numbers reflect them to be. Cooper's current enrollment numbers this year reflect a 5A class and that's why I feel they have a good chance of getting classed in that group. Going forward, it's possible they could even move back to 6A the way Boone County is growing, however, that probably won't happen due to a 5th high school that is planned for the future in Boone County.

Sure does appear that nothing was released today. I went back and re-read the interview between Vaught and Tackett and it clearly says information would be released today. So who knows what's up.

Released to the schools and released to the public are two different things.
