When Highlands moves down to 4A could it potentially hurt their program?

Featured Replies

You said it...with all the questionable antics of Highlands ,Trinity and St X we all know a smack on the hand is less painful in the wallet. Highlands will go where they want to go and do what they want to do. Simple as that.

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, we have another. LOL Do you care to explain your comments?

Please explain...

I don't see how in the world it hurts, they've abused 5A. Below are their playoff scores since moving to a six class format, one close game out of 15 and somehow that happened in round one.

2009: HHS 60-13; 49-0; 42-21; 52-12; 35-7; Avg: 51.6/10.6

2008: HHS 28-22; 53-6; 35-21; 42-16; 35-15 Avg: 38.6/16

2007: HHS 50-0; 40-0; 52-12; 49-21; 28-7 Avg: 43.8/8

Sorry... I didnt mean to point any fingers of wrongdoing. When I think football in Ky, I can only think of these three because they seem to have such an advantage over most of the schools. Highlands maybe a little less that Trinity and St X . Looking as an outsider not living in N Ky. It just amazes me that a school with less than 430 boys in the whole school can just kick the crap out of these big schools like they do on a consistent basis. How do so many talented boys live in that one district. Is it the coaching , the feeder system, what make this school so much better than 99% of the schools in this state. I love watching them play. I have been to several Florida High School finals in football. Im not saying Highlands is on that level but that are as close as we have around here and would do very well with a Florida high school 4A schedule. The questionable antics comment came from people who question the program. Back to the question of the thread.....let them play in what they want 4,5 or 6A. Wherever they are put they will be one of the top three every year.

4A is the tougher class. I wish Highlands was in 4A for the last few years including this year because I believe Bell County, Boyle County and Lone Oak could have gave them boys a game. After this year I believe it's back to rebuilding for the Rebels.

I think the best way to answer Hoopology's question is for someone to post(if it's possible) the one post about how much Highland means to past, present and future Bluebirds. I was a Highlands hater until I read the post about the young kid who couldn't wait to be a Bluebird to win a state championship. I can't remember the origin or the author of the post. I think it was an open letter or something like that. If I have time, I'll see if I can find it but I was a Highlands "hater" until I read that post and anyone who reads it will and should gain a whole new respect for Highlands. The best way I can answer Hoopology's question is that the pride for Highlands begins at around 5 years o age and it carries on through life. Why is Highlands so good? Because in Highlands territory they are bred to be champions and they buy into to becoming a champion at an early age. It is admirable.

I think that if Highlands and Boyle County are back in the same class, it will make things more interesting. From 2000-2004 the beginnings of a rivalry seemed to develop until re-classification separated them.

In reality, Highlands could be better. Many very good football players that live in Ft. Thomas (Highlands School District}, go to Newport Central Catholic to play.

I think the post is called How Highlands Recruited My Son.

I did. See post #36.

It is easily the best post I have ever read on here. The title is misleading. Longtime BGPers probably know the post I am referencing. Made me want to move to Ft. Thomas and raise my own Bluebird.

Overall 4A has the best teams, Bell, Boyle, Lex. Cath. Putting Highlands in there with these guys makes for some really good games late in the playoffs. I think this only makes football stronger in central Kentucky. Its finally time Bell Co. and Boyle get some work before they play each other. Some of the best games I ever witnessed were Bell Co. and Highlands playing each other. I would love to see this again.

Bell County goes to 3A.

Boyle is 2-2 against Highlands. Guess you missed those good games.

Boyle is attempting to go to 5A. I think it will be and hope it is denied.

Boyle should not go to 5A, that is a easy out for them to go to 5A. If that is the case Highlands should stay in 5A, Boyle just don't want to run with the big dogs.
