That is perfect. Buster Olney has said that deal for months and said they would tell him to shop around outside of that. That is still over paid but fair for a Jeter.

I heard today on ESPN radio that Jeter made more last year by the end of spring training then Joey Votto made all year.

I think most people respect what Jeter has meant to the Yankees. I also think the Yankees have been fair offering him almost double his projected market value. If he doesn't sign for that then I don't blame the Yankees one bit. He's wanted closer to triple his value.

Smart approach by the Yankees, telling Jeter to put himself on the open market. It will ultimately serve to considerably lower his asking price.

I am a Yankee fan and I say ABSOLUTELY YES the Yanks should sign Jeter. Work to come to an agreement at all cost, Derek Jeter not only can still play, he is most valuble with his example, influence and general baseball knowledge to the younger Yankee players.

 

Derek Jeter is the face of the current Yankees, no doubt he will go in the famed Yankee Stadium honors out in center field. Jeter already holds or is very close to several Yankee records. Think of that, when your name is mentioned in the most storied franchise in MLB history, along with names like Gehrig, Ruth, Berra, Dimmagio and others then yes, the Yankees owe him. Derek Jeter is THE leader of that team, all look up to him and not only just with the Yankees. Jeter is greatly respected on AND OFF the field in all of baseball and all of sports as well.

The old Yankee Stadium is called "The House that Ruth Built"..........This new stadium could be called "The House that Jeter Built".

OLD, I somewhat agree but George is gone. There was a study done and Derek has hit his lowest aveage since his first year 1995/1996. Had very high stats or hitting into DPs. Range at SS has always been a question. I say keep him but Derek wants four years they have offered three. If he stays I'd drop him in the batting order. The team comes first.

For all of the "they owe him" talk. I understand what you are saying, but how much more can they owe the guy. He has made a fortune for all of those years. It is a business.
