I'd be happy with either. I think Chapman is/was more of a sure thing than Strasburg. I think Strasburg's hype was a little premature.

 

I've said the same from the beginning, he's very good but not really worth the hype IMO, not yet anyways.

He ended with, "If I had to pick..." How many times have you said that when you really wanted something? Regardless of the role, I find it humorous that he wouldn't want the two most highly touted pitching prospects in the last decade. But, to each his own.

 

They are good and both have a lot of hype but just because they are highly touted prospects does not mean they will be mlb all-stars. If both players were healthy then I may take Strasburg but right now I'd take Chapman.

 

 

Also, I don't believe either one of them are the best pitchers in baseball right now so of course I'd take someone else if given the chance. They are good but who knows what they'll be like 2 years down the road.

Power pitchers that you mentioned threw upper 90's, with the exception of Johnson. Chapman is consistently throwing 102+. Big difference there.

I would like to vote for the American, who went to college first, etc.....However, Chapman is electric, and it looks like it comes with ease. I always had the opinion that Strasburg was at maximum effort pitching. While I hope that he can make a full recovery and be as sensational as before, the jury is out.

Not sure how you can leave Nolan Ryan out the equation. Probably the greatest "power" pitcher to ever pitch in the major leagues. The guy was hitting 100 mph over the age of 40. He was simply a freak of nature. Threw his 7th no no at the age of 44. That's ridiculous. Pitched for a major league record 27 seasons. Are you serious?

Strasburg's mechanics are a receipe for disaster IMO.

Chapman throws harder, is more durable (I think/hope), is taller, has a deadly slider, and is left handed. That being said Strasburg has a nice changeup and curveball but I'd rather have Chapman, especially at this point after Strasburg's injury.

How much wear does he have on his arm? How many years has he really pitched? Smoltz, constantly injured. Carlton didn't throw upper nineties. Holliday either. Clemons was on Viagra, Testosterone, and HGH. Sabbathia, not upper nineties. So, going down your list, I'd say the only comparable guy is Johnson, and with many differences possibly Seaver. I think there are far more that have been injured and not returned to form than those you have listed as HOF'ers presently and in the near future.

 

Are we gonna take a flyer on this guy that he's the next Randy Johnson? For the life of me I can't understand why we are so hellbent on not using this guy to slam the friggn' door shut for the next 6 years at possibly 50 saves a season.
