Middletown is not the team they were last year. The Middies are very, very young. I think they start 2 Sr's on offense and 3 Sr's on defense. They play a lot of Sophomore's and the best player on the field was their Sophomore QB Jalin Marshall. This kid is special. He was a man among boys in this game. Middletown will be a force next year and the year after but I don't think they will be much of a threat for a deep playoff run this year.

 

Simon Kenton was a much better team last year. They were way in over their heads today against a much faster team. Parker Deters was the only player for SK who looked like he belonged. He had a fantastic game. I've seen SK play 3 times over the past 2 years and in each game Deters was the best player on defense. I'm not sure why the kid doesn't get more recognition. With Simpson gone, SK's strength is with their defense. Don't look for SK to be as explosive on offense as they have been the past couple years. IMO, I think they will have their hands full in what I think is a tougher district than what most are predicting this year. With that being said, no one in NKY would have given Middletown much of a game, let alone beat them save for maybe Highlands. Ohio football, especially at the D-1 level is so much better than what we have here in KY its almost ridiculous.

Simpson would have made no difference today. He would have been hit in the back field as all of the SK running backs were. I totally agree with you that SK will have their hands full this year and they were totally outclassed today.

I can't understand why the SK coach went nuts on the late hit called on the Middletown player. His actions caused him to get a penalty and cost his team 15 yards in a game in which yards were at a premium for his offense.

With no Offensive line your not going to score many points. Which means your defense is going to spend most of the time on the field. I would say right now Ryle is 5 TD's better than SK. If SK doesn't straighten out their line and play calling problems Ryle will be 5 TD better in October when they play. Let's hope they get it figured out so we can see a good game come October.

Like I said in the other thread, just waaaayyyy to much speed and athleticism from the Middies. Simon Kenton is a nice little team but come one....17 yards rushing? Giving up over 230 yards rushing.

Could've been worse. Two long runs (one for TD) by Marshall were called back because of penalty's.

I can't believe Marshall only tallied 92 yards rushing, the kid made some nice plays, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes the next three seasons. I have no idea what type of player their other QB is, but I can't imagine he's a better runner than #7. SK had very few positives, I got a bit excited when Parker picked Marshall to begin the game but knew SK would struggle after watching that first possession. Middies were far more athletic than SK, which was expected but I never thought the Neers would post a doughnut on the scoreboard. As far as the penalty on coach M, I'm not sure what transgressed but the refs had flagged Middletown on the play, so he must have just hit the boiling point. You know it's a bad game when your punter is one of the only positives, I thought DJ did a fine job punting. Overall a painful day for SK, it was hard to watch and I'm sure the players are feeling pretty down at this point but Middletown has a pretty nice team. Time for a bit of amnesia, Dixie is up next and it won't be a walk in the park, plenty of work to be done in Independence starting now.

Trust me ABC2 I don't make excuses. Ohio football is better. That is my statement. Highlands beat Cincy St. X last year, and how many games do you think the Bombers won in the playoffs? Look it up- you may be suprised. St. X had a disappointing year in 2009. Ask Coach Specht.

 

Lets see i did speak tp coach Specht for a long time about last season. Yes it is a dissapointing season for the Boomers when they dont win state. See at Sk people get happy when they make the playoffs but at top quality programs like X and Highlands they are excepated to win state every year and compete for national titles not just distric wins nd if those two things dont happen it is a bad season.

 

I think you are confusing me with another big SK fan. I agree with your assessment that at Highlands and Cincy St. X it is a disappointing year if they don't win state. The difference is Kentucky football is weak compared to Ohio. See the 19 titles Highlands has won vs. how many the Bombers have. St. X has one state championship in football. Much harder to win it all in the buckeye state.
