I agree!! One thing that Dale has over other coaches

 

He grew up playing in the FTJFL.

He went to Highlands

He is from Ft.Thomas

He proved he could coach at Sycamore HS in Ohio.

 

I believe Dale is the perfect coach for HHS, simply from the fact he has "been there , done that" through all the different stages of football in Ft. Thomas.

 

There are other great coaches in the state , but Dale fits Highlands perfectly!!

The tradition was built by great coaches. No, not anyone could win there. The wrong man can ruin any program.

It's not just when they get to high school. I know that everyone is on the Fort Thomas Junior League bandwagon, but a lot of it is true. This is my first year involved w/ it. We have 6 coaches for a 3/4 grade team. 4 of us played college football. That's a lot of experience to give 8 -9 year old's. We will coach them for the next 4 years and then their 7&8th grade coach was a running back at Cornell. The kids receive great instruction from a very young age so that when they get to Highlands, they are fundamentally sound and then go into the athlete factory that the offseason program has created.

 

NewCath has benefitted from the league as well and have seen great results.

It's great to see someone from the outside to recognize what the FTJFL is all about. Keep drinking the "Blue Kool-aid"

I voted no, because I think that people attribute too much to "talent" and "numbers" and not enough to coaching..and tradition. But the tradition doesn't continue if the coaching isn't there to take advantage of the talent and the numbers.

Not saying it's not a good post but I've coached for 23 years and been around it for more and I've seen lots and lots of coaches who had fun and where enthusiastic, many who did not have good teams and great tradition. I was lucky enough to sit down with Coach Mueller in Cincinnati at a clinic 1 time and was impressed but what impressed me most is he actually looked at some of the stuff we did and said " I like that ". Highlands has unbelievable support, tradition AND talent. But I still say kids come there just to play football and that gives them an advantage. All school have talent, but not as much as FTH.

You do understand that this thread was not started by a Highlands person. Right? That being said, it is a fair question to ask, and could be applied to any successful program. This thread doesn't insult Dale, as much as it points out how lucky we are to have him.

It's amazing that HHS gets criticized for not playing a tougher schedule when they continually play up in class every year and schedule much larger schools 6A on a regular basis... and I know they've played 1A Beechwood the last couple of years

 

Agree, but it would be nice if some area big schools (Campbell County) could field a competitive team to take them on......
