Rumor has it that several in Meade Co. may consider the loss to Manual unfair due to Manual being a Magnet school allowing for the draw of students from a large metropolitan area of a 300,00 or so polation. There is some rumor that they may be contemplating protesting the results to the KHSAA as an inequaltable situation or one in which it should be considered by the KHSAA as grounds for a proposal to level the playing field. I have heard that their beef is that students from all over the Jefferson Co. area can apply to attend Manaul and go through a screening process for acceptance to Manual, and that these students are often outside of the general area considered to be in the immediate or normal Manual district. I have heaerd that Meade may think that some of these students and their families may have used the guise of a strong academic reputation at Manual as a reason for choosing to attend Manual, but that athletics may have been some of the source of their motivation to choose Manual. Rumor has it that the Meade Co. people may be upset because Manual has done some posible marketing or at least some messaging in some way to spread word into the surrounding area promoting the strength of many of the offerings at Manual while puttimg some emphasis on perceived advantages of attending Manual by choice. The impressions seem to be that the Meade Co. folks feel that having to compete against an instution such as Manual and their open enrollment/promotional options seems to lessen the likelihood that the students at Meade Co., who work so hard to be the best, feel slighted and feel that their "self-esteem" may be permantly harmed should they not be put into a situation where they win a state trophy, thus popssibly damaging their children's future confidence and opportunities to be tomorrow's leaders of a competitive/corporate world geared to success for all. Not sure what their next contemplated possible proposal to the KHSAA may entail at the next generall assembly of the KHSAA, but inquiring minds want to know what their AD and Superintendent may possibly propose to make things an equitable and level field for the youth of Meade Co. to win a title?

It's funny but sad at the same time. Proctor from Meade Co. was the main author of Prop 20. Beating them at Meade might give him ideas about the inequality of public schools vs. open enrollment public schools.

P.S. Great win for Manual. :thumb:

Hey Rowdy - you act as though Manual is not a contender this year for athletic trophies - tell that to the soccer team and the football team. And make sure the rest of us are aware of Manual's lack of athletic prowess - it sure does not seem that way to us !!!

Show me the number of div 1 athletes to come out of Manual in the last ten years.

 Very funny. I especially liked the part about people attending Manual for athletic reason, that was a real side splitter.

Kick em out.
So I guess you didn't have much fun coming to Louisville Friday huh?

Not a good night for the two NKY proponents of prop 20 either, as both went down in the first round. Time to ban E. Carter and Fern Creek also I guess??

I have the privilege to speak with people out in the state. People from Hardin County, Nelson County, Taylor County, Washington County, etc.,etc. While the majority DO understand that there is "open enrollment" in Jefferson County, there are still a few that do not understand that all schools in Jefferson County can draw students from throughout the entire county. Is this fair in regards to teams that have districts to draw from within their respective counties? No! We should also understand that in most of the smaller counties, there might be only one high school to attend as is the case in Brandenburg. Some of the other counties may have a city/county situation like Taylor County H.S. - Campbellsville H.S. and Boyle County H.S. - Danville H.S. Where the major differences come in is when you start drawing student athletes from multiple counties and across state lines. While the satire in the Post from Blitz is humorous, I can see the perceptions being there. Next I guess we'll hear from posters about conspiracies involving the "no child left behind" being manipulated to give a certain school chances to draw students from a school that does not meet state goals in testing. HaHa.The problem will always exist unless some concrete guidelines are established and even then we know that rules are "made to be tested" or was that "broken".? Regardless, it seems that this whole Prop 20 issue has done one thing and that is stir discussion and occasionally arguments. It seems that you cannot go anywhere without heariing questions about the proposal. Sometimes just general discussion can be a catalyst to positive changes. Will verybody be happy? Never!

The No Child Left Behind probably wont ever be a issue because all the athletes that came to Henry Clay last year (we are talking 2 or 3) had to sit out a year like any other transfer student. So I wouldn't think kids would use it as a oppurtunity to join a better program because of the lose of a year worth of compition.
