Good question.

 

While football is important at Highlands (and my educated guess is that it's important at Trinity, X, Beechwood, Boyle and every other school that has had long term, repeated success in football) it's not life or death. Not even close. I have a son fortunate to win state his senior year and a son that did not. Was the latter disappointed when he got beat by CovCath? Sure. One could say devastated for a short while. Then again, I'd hope that every kid that played on a team that felt they had a real shot of winning state was devastated for a while when his team lost. When I spoke to Johnson Central's Bratton last year after the game, it was apparent that he too was devastated at the time with the loss. But it was not life or death. Not for him, not for my son and not for any other Highlands player that wasn't fortunate enough to win state.

 

Perhaps History is done for a while beating the "Highlands avoids strong teams on its schedule" drum and is now moving on to the "Highlands emphasis on football is unhealthy" drum. If so, I'm starting to pick up a theme on his posts about Highlands. :eek: I don't know History from Adam and don't know if this is the case, but I have known people that if they couldn't beat someone, they tried to tear their opposition down any way they could.

As for Dixie, based on the talent I've seen on their teams over the years, they have been underachievers in my opinion in more years than they have over achieved. I'll leave it to the smarter, more knowledgeable football people on this site to banter back and forth as to why that possibly is the case.

 

Never done with that, but since there is not a good answer as to why the Bluebirds don't play Trinity and Louisville St. X with any regularity-no point in continuing for the moment on that issue.

 

Since IMHO there are more Bluebirds fans that post on here than any other team, just like to point on some area of contention. I always give alot of credit to Highlands, but let's face it-here is the weekly routine-build up the other team, and then beat 'em bad and start over.

 

Honestly I don't think Dixie's coach puts as much emphasis on winning as Highland's does. Could that be a reason they seem to come up short? I don't know. Just post on here when Highlands knocks off Trinity in a game at Trinity......if they can ever get that game on the books.

 

Other Highlands grads coaching have had some level of success-Lickert at Holmes, but I only think Dale has won it all. Then again, legendary coach Owen Hauck won his only state championship at Highlands. Maybe the football acumen in Fort Thomas is simply superior.

I'll go along with that. No need to mention any teams but NCC and Dixie. I guess Dixie has a better perspective than NCC? They must. A small school like NCC must put every waking moment into football to beat a school that is what double, three times the size? They can't have lives at all. Poor kids. Of course I am being facetious here. Congrats to NCC for putting in the work to put a competitive team on the field and beating a team that has many resources, bodies and an All American QB. Great win NCC, you guys should be proud.

Congrats to NCC. Their running back performed well in the fourth quarter and earned the tough yards needed for that victory. I thought these were two very good football teams. Dixie made too many turnovers. I believe NCC may get back to state this year!

Kelly ran hard, but so did Cain. If Hayes can get back healthy, they will have 4 guys who are threats out of the backfield.
