Congratulations to Coach Eviston on his first win. Breds showed a ton of heart tonight by not giving up when they got down 28-13 to start the 4th. Kelly, Cain and Hightchew were unstoppable in the 4th. Doyle and Woltermann made huge defensive plays. Thacker and Morse had huge games on the D line pressuring Pike to some bad throws. Hightchew played a great 2nd half and made some nice decisions. Congratulations Breds!

Dixie plays a lot of players both ways which doesn't help.

 

How NCC can put up 200 yards passing is beyond me. They simply have no passing game.

 

#7 for Dixie is a good football player.

 

Dixie is a big-play team. Not much on sustaining drives.

 

Zeke played OK. Inconsistent. He throws a nice-looking long pass with no effort. Struggles on other passes - just inconsistent.

 

After the first quarter Brady threw the ball pretty well. The passing game is not like last years. It is predicated on misdirection and getting athletes in space. It is not the spread. I liked the mix of formations

Pike looked like a very talented QB starting his first varsity game. Some good plays some bad. 23 was the best player for Dixie offensively the kid is quick. I hope that #7 is ok. NewCath played bad th first half as Dixie attacked their perimeters. Way to many soft corners to turn on the jet sweep. The second half NewCath ran behind big Jack and Jake and just ran down Dixies throat for the rest of the game. If their is a more powerful backfield than Kelly and Cain then I want to see it. They both put the smack down running, tackling, and Cain crushed DBs when blocking downfield. Pike had them in position to tie but tried to force a ball to the end zone that was intercepted. He throws a nice ball and his decision making will get sharper. NewCath wanted it more in the second half and took it.

 

So NCC is going to be travelling down the "Double J Highway" this year? EXCELLENT!!

It was the tale of 2 different halves. NewCath looked unimpressive the first half and Dixie looked worse in the 2nd half. NewCath controlled field position the entire second half largely in part to 4 Dixie turnovers. That's a tough position to put your defense in.........

Pike surely didnt throw a good ball. He floated passes all night and made a couple of NCC picks easy to come by. I'm not saying he wont be a good quarterback but he has a ton of work to do. Completing 10 of 25 passes is not considered a very good night. Once Hightchew settled down he was impressive. Brady ended up 13-18 for 225yds and 2 td's. That should be considered a very good nights work.

Pike obviously didn't have his "A" game for the first game of his career. Opposing teams will know when he is on.....and a number of dropped passes didn't help the stats either. He'll be interesting to watch once he gets in sync with his receivers.

Not taking anything away from Hightchew, but I would guess 10 of his completions were quick safe swing passes that didn't require much passing skill.

With 1A Beechwood up next for Dixie, shouldn't the Colonels be able to recover and gain some momentum?

Beechwood is small is numbers and size compared to the 6A, 5A and 4A competition they face so the D1 talent of Dixie really should not have much of a challenge again from Beechwood this year. NCC has Aiken. Based on this big win against Dixie, NCC should do just fine.
