LCA over Beechwood in a VERY good game...

LCA 34 - Beechwood 28

I believe the LCA passing attack along with their multi-talented running game will prevail and be a huge WIN for the young and growing LCA program that Rains and his Staff are putting together.

LCA's defense has proven to be able to handle the running game this year and Krueger (QB) has a lot of confidence this year (won the MVP in the State Baseball Championship).

I'm still getting mixed feelings about this one. In some games it appears LCA has played pretty well against some decent competition. On the other hand, the fact that Paris was in it for a half against them makes me think they were either very, very, very, flat or they just don't have consistancy yet.

Either way I believe that they will be pumped up at home, and Beechwood will have to be concerned with that. If LCA can score first and maintain a lead the problems will mount for the Beechies as the game goes on. However, if Beechwood comes out and dominates the lines panic may set in for LCA.

I'm going to stick with the experience of Beechwood in this one and I think they advance.

I have faith in him, he'll be 5/5 ;)

LCA upsets Beechwood.

I would disagree with your statement. I guess that DeSales (#4 in 2A) must not have showed up. Neither did Corbin or CAL. Seems to me that LCA has beat some good programs this year. Yet the Fairview teams of the past two years are better than this year's LCA team????

Also, check your info. NCC beat Fairview last year, not Beechwood.

Newport Catholic or Beechwood...does it really make a difference? Class 2A is weak and when LCA played Corbin, the Redhounds were struggling at the time but it would be a different game now and Cal isn't near as good this year as they were a year ago. And come to think of it, LCA had problems beaten this year's Fairview team, who were very weak, or at least not as good as their past two teams. It's good to believe but talk to the other teams in this District that were really good... but then again, I'll ask you after Friday night's contest. Trust me, in Northern, Kentucky, football is played a little bit different! ;) But don't get me wrong, i'm pulling for LCA...

As LCA continues to grow their program, the results of this game will be quite different in five years. As for now, LCA is looking for a moral victory here. Beechwood is too strong all-around for LCA this year. I look for LCA to play this one down to the wire.

The way it is going now and people telling me that LCA won't be in Class A in 5 years. I remember back in 96 Beechwood played Lex Cath. They were in Class A then. I don't know the timetable on this one but I would say within 4 years they were a 3A team. I might be wrong on this one but I know I have to be pretty close on this one.

He won the MVP in baseball but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is football not baseball. If Beechwood can get pressure on him I would say they have a very good chance of winning this game.

LCA has a planned limitation on their enrollment in order to preserve the HIGH academics they enjoy within the school - results are very clear on ACT/SAT scores and % of LCA student that go onto College...

LCA will be in today's 1A system for another 3 years and then will go no larger than "today's" 2A by design.

Tradition wins this one and well we know who has the most of that. Beechwood by 2 TD's or more with the game being somewhat close at half time.

Here we go again. NKY football is better, everyone else is weak. Even though LCA beefed up their schedule (who thought at the beginning of the season that they would go 9-1 playing perrenial powerhouses like Corbin and DeSales???), and beat some teams, they are still considered weak? I know, you have to beat the big dogs to gain any respect. But that hasn't worked for Bellevue.

Granted they only beat Fairview 28-14, but that was a huge game for this team. They had NEVER beaten Fairview and they had to play AT Fairview. They wanted to win this game very badly and may have come out a little flat and uptight. But once they settled in, they never looked back. This game is a lot like the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State. It doesn't matter the records, it is going to be a good game.

Much like this is going to be a VERY good game.

Until someone else from the East starts beating Beechwood and NCC he is correct, Look at the records, NKY is superior to the rest of the East. Since 1991 there has been only one year that one of these two were not in the state title game, that is 13 out of the past 14 years.

Yes, LCA beefed up their schedule, But Corbin and DeSales are not powerhouses.

Now this is interesting, In regards to LCA you say a team needs to beat the "big dogs" to get any respect, but is hasn't worked for Bellevue? Why mention Bellevue in this?

Then you turn around and say "Granted they (LCA) only beat Fairview 28-14, but that was a huge game for this team. They had NEVER beaten Fairview and they had to play AT Fairview." It doesn't matter if it was the first time LCA beat Fairview, Fairview was not a strong team this year, the game never should have been close, period! And to compare that game/rivalry with the OSU-Michigan rivalry? Not even close.

Yes, LCA beefed up their schedule, But Corbin and DeSales are not powerhouses.

I was not saying that the rivalry was any where close to the Mich-OSU rivalry. I would never say that any rivalry compares to this rivalry. Just trying to compare the rivalry that exists between the two teams. And I mentioned Bellevue because they beat Beechwood this year and have gained very little respect. So I just see the ball rolling to, if LCA beats Beechwood, there will be little respect. May not be the case.

I did not say that Corbin was a powerhouse this year. I said that they were a perennial powerhouse. In other words, they have tradition. Last I checked DeSales has two losses and one of those was to LCA. And both of these teams are still in the playoffs. One will be gone after this week, since they play each other. These teams were scheduled a year or two ago when they had better records. How is the coaching staff supposed to know that a usually strong team is going to have a down year?

Contrary to what you appear to think, an inferior team can hang with a team. I have seen quite a few games that an inferior team beat the BIG DOG--Ask Louisville about South Florida or UCLA about Arizona.

I guess I realize that these players are HIGH SCHOOL students and that some things do get in their heads. They are not perfect and they make mistakes and sometimes come out uptight in a game. Especially one that had the potential to get a monkey off their backs (i.e. the first district championship in school history).

Both teams are going to be ready to play and it will be a VERY good game.

Fairview teams of the past 2 years were better than this year's team. Last year it was the same LCA team and they got beat by 20 by Fairview.

Beechwood wins this maybe not by blowout but they will win.

As it's been said before, "One win does not make a season." Bellevue played a weaker schedule, and it cost them during the seeding in the tie breaker. Plus people are thinking Bellevue may be a "one win and one season wonder," like in 1999 and 1991, they do good one year and, or upset one team and the next few years people wonder what happened to them.

If, LCA beats Beechwood that is only one win, but then they would have to face NCC or Bellevue, I don't see them pulling off two wins in a row against the NKY teams. No matter what LCA does, what will they do next year? and the next? And the year after that? That is how you measure a program, not by one win or one season. Plus you have to realize, when you are a Beechwood, NCC, Danville and Mayfield you have a target on your back in every game. As they say, it's hard to get to the top, but it is harder to stay there. So sure the teams on the top will lose a game here and there, but to a team who is decent.

LOL, again, comparing Class A football with college teams. An inferior HS team hanging with a good team/program is a lot different that an inferior college team hanging with or beating a top 10 college team!

Agreed that in order to be at the top you need to do year after year. But we are not asking for respect for being a dynasty. A team like Bellevue, LCA or any other team that has pulled an upset is asking for respect for the fact that in that game that team was better than the team that was "supposed" to win. When Beechwood, NCC, etc. lose a game it is not the end of the world and it is not a tragedy to say that on that night the other team executed and was a better team. At times a team can match up better with one team than with another team. A primarily running team usually has a much easier time playing a primarily running team and tend to struggle against a passing team. Not always the case, but tends to be most of the time.

I guess the only way that this debate will be settled is on the football field this Friday. Can't wait.
