Beechwood Vs LCA

Featured Replies

One other thing these Beechwood seniors know what it feels like to win the big one.

A few of them, anyway. Those that actually played: Muth, Sawyer, Reilly, & Moreton. The others only know it from the sidelines. But, the shoulders these guys rode on have all graduated.

The STRENGTH of that team is gone. Janning, Petroze, Pike, Lussi and Knuckles: all GONE. And of course, MVP Menetrey. Throw in to that group Slusher, Alford, Spence, Harms and the other graduates who led that team.

Beechwood lost 21 seniors; LCA lost 2.

HOMEFIELD advantage went to Beechwood last year. This year it goes to LCA.

Last year Beechwood was the best team LCA faced (an intimidating prospect); this year it was LexCath. LCA has already faced the toughest competition they will face all year. Beechwood is NO LexCath.

WINNING TRADITION goes to Beechwood. But most of those with much playing experience are gone.

VARSITY EXPERIENCE: advantage LCA. Almost every starter has at least 2 full years of varsity experience, some 3 years.

HUNGER: LCA has it. Winning is expected at Beechwood, it's commonplace. LCA's kids are hungry.

PROGRAM DIRECTION: advantage LCA. LCA is vastly improved from last year. Even Beechwood supporters say that Beechwood is down this year.

PREDICTION:

42 LCA

28 Beechwood

On the other hand ...

Beechwood has played three, maybe four, teams this season that are better than Lexington Christian ... Alter, Covington Catholic and Newport Catholic and maybe even Bellevue. They beat one of them and lost to two of them in close games.

Playing a quality schedule like that goes a long way toward closing the gap in experience. This year's Beechwood bunch has played as many games, or maybe even more games, against quality competition that LCA's guys have in three years.

Down from a team that routed Danville in the state championship game ... every team in Class A would love to have a "down" year like this one.

And what about next year? Will LCA continue to be a power? I have no doubt that Beechwood will remain a top-five team.

That's not really the question. We are discussing what will happen THIS Friday, not next year (or last year). If you want to discuss a dynasty, that is another issue altogether.

Doubtful.

Doubtful.
Aside from Lexington Catholic and Beechwood last year, what quality teams has LCA played the last three years? And before you mention them, I wouldn't put Fairview and DeSales on the same level as Alter, CovCath and NewCath.

HEY, EVERYONE from Fairview, DeSales, Corbin, Breathit, So. Oldham & CAL: according to Westsider, you're not quality teams....

TRADITION NEVER graduates! :thumb: :thumb:

I still don't know about this game. But knowing Beechwood, and the Yeagle factor I will have to go along with Augie Garrido's prediction. Beechwood 42, LCA 20, if that!

Lex Cath and all may be good teams, But so are the Ohio teams that Beechwood played this year, Newark Cath has a huge amount of tradition and are still in the playoffs in Ohio, As is Alter, a D-3 Ohio team that is also still in the Ohio playoffs that Beechwood lost to on a last second FG. Then you figure in Cov Cath which Beechwood did well against, and then the NCC game, where Beechwood found a way to win. Against a tough Bellevue team (did I just say that? lol), Beechwood fought back, I know the LCA boys were there watching that game, Beechwood NEVER gave up!

After the Bellevue game and now that it's the playoffs the "common place" winning is no factor, They do NOT want to be the Beechwood team that doesn't make it to the finals. Since 1991 Beechwood has ONLY been watching the finals from the stands THREE years! Down year for Beechwood? Most teams would LOVE to have a Beechwood down year!

I guess you have to have played there to really understand the tradtion of Beechwood football. Granted those guys might not have started last year but they did play on Special teams and they were part of the team that beat Danville in the finals. Yeagle loves his senior players. He knows most of these guys never did play that much that is why they will probably give it their all. Question for you Bluto how many of Yeagle's players varsity experience before they were State Champs?? I would say hardly none of them because he plays a lot of Seniors unless you are a very good athlete. Big Deal the Tigers lost 21 seniors last year. Tradition never graduates. Tradition is when you have kids in the 1st and 2nd grade wearing Beechwood jerseys wanting to be a Tiger one day. You don't know what Hunger is until you play for a coach like Yeagle.

Are any of those teams comparable to Alter, CovCath and NewCath? If you think so, you're way in the minority ... and way off.

By the way, those teams you mentioned were 2-4 in first-round playoff games, and the four losses were romps. Only one will survive the second round.

Blah, blah, blah...

Let the whistle blow and let's play ball!

This is the playoffs - no one knows what can happen on any given night and I think this will be a VERY close game...

I respect Coach Yeagle, Beechwood tradition, and the strength of schedule of Beechwood - afterall, they are 8-3 and still ranked in the top 5 in Class A! Nuff said!

However, LCA has the respect this year of those who are paid to study these things and are ALSO ranked in the top 5...LCA's GOALS are to be like Beechwood - that is a compliment! LCA DOES have 1st-2nd graders wearing LCA Football jerseys around because we know HOW to build a program as well - it starts in ELEMENTARY(our 3rd year of having it) and builds from there. Granted, LCA does NOT have the playoff experience of a Beechwood - but WHO does! Beechwood is rich in tradition and they know HOW to play Football!

Give our kids SOME credit boys - THEY have paid their dues since 7th grade - believe me on that. And I do not mean they got to win a bunch of games either - on the contrary - they got their heads beat in up to their Sophomore year and they know what they are working for and they KNOW what stands in their way -

THIS will be a VERY good game, regardless of the outcome. Go EAGLES!

You make a very convincing case.

No one is putting down LCA ... they're obviously a talented team and a program on the rise. That does nothing to dispel the notion that Beechwood has proven themselves against a much tougher set of opponents.

The schedule is the schedule...LCA beefed up its schedule this year and that earned us some respect.

We have NO CONTROL over what DISTRICT opponents we play or how good/bad they are - we just have to play them and hope for the best...

WHAT did Beechwood look like after its 5th year of Football? Did you have TRADITION then? Step back and look at LCA's program and understand that COach Rains has done a tremendous job with this group of Seniors he took over as Sophomores (8-3 in 2003, 8-3 in 2004, 10-1 this year)...LCA is too young to have a TRADITION yet...

Beechwood has GROWN into being able to play the schedule you do and I think LCA wants to get to that point as well - Beechwood, NCC, Bellevue and Northern KY football is AWESOME and I am a huge fan of the top quality athletes and coaches up there! Envious actually...At least we want to emulate the BEST programs! :)

Good luck to both teams and let's pray for NO INJURIES to anyone tonight.
