August 10, 201016 yr Author It's all Thom Brennaman's fault. Why in the world did he take this series off? Now we're stuck with Paul Keels. I can't stand him. He makes about 10 mistakes a game, and I think the Reds are about 3-15 when he's on the air. :lol:
August 10, 201016 yr One theory could be to use your struggling rook against the ace of the other team and then let 2 better pitchers go in games 2 and 3. You don't do that when you're in a pennant race. This was Leake's game, and I think it's a good thing we started him. He threw the ball well but had some big breaks..then the big one. With that said, I think he becomes the long man in the bullpen. He has been struggling lately & Bailey will be ready to go soon, if he's not already. The pitching rotation exemplifies each team's season thus far. The Cards stacked their rotation and are going to be tough in a 3 game series. The Reds are relying on the same thing that has gotten them this far - quality pitching depth. There is plenty of baseball to be played after Wednesday.
August 10, 201016 yr You guys might think I'm crazy, but my 5 man rotation would be; Bailey, Wood, Cueto, Volquez and Arroyo. I can live without Harang and Leake right now. Crazy? That's the best rotation. Let Leake take Fisher's spot in the bullpen.

If the Reds fail to score a run in this game, you do realize that they can't win. So the throw the Ace theory is kind of bogus right now.

It doesn't change the fact that our pitcher was pitching against bats that ping one year ago while the other was pitching , abeit briefly, in the Majors and then in AAA for a year. I'm not debating the question regarding starting a rookie. I'm simply saying there's no contest as to who is more seasoned.

August 10, 201016 yr You don't do that when you're in a pennant race. . If the team thinks he's the best candidate then you go with him. However, I'm not going to "season" my guy late in the year when I'm fighting for the #1 spot just for the sake of him getting better down the road. Too close to the end of the season for me. Add in that he's been struggling to get people out for a few months and its a fair question to ask as to the wisdom of starting him. Could they have flopped their order like STL? Maybe. To the defense they're starting 2 rookies so its tough to juggle too much.

I think most intelligent baseball people would give the Reds the best chance for a win in the second game and not much of a chance to win, or maybe even score, in games one and three. The Reds better get to Garcia tomorrow because they are not scoring on Wednesday either.
August 10, 201016 yr Tonight's game was the biggie, the tone-setter. Precisely why a struggling rookie like Mike Leake should have not have been out there, IMO.
