August 10, 201016 yr I don't think anyone in their right mind thought that the Reds had much chance to sweep this series. I think most intelligent baseball people would give the Reds the best chance for a win in the second game and not much of a chance to win, or maybe even score, in games one and three. The Reds better get to Garcia tomorrow because they are not scoring on Wednesday either. The Reds faired pretty well against Wainwright last time out.

August 10, 201016 yr If the team thinks he's the best candidate then you go with him. However, I'm not going to "season" my guy late in the year when I'm fighting for the #1 spot just for the sake of him getting better down the road. Too close to the end of the season for me. Add in that he's been struggling to get people out for a few months and its a fair question to ask as to the wisdom of starting him. Could they have flopped their order like STL? Maybe. To the defense they're starting 2 rookies so its tough to juggle too much. They already have Arroyo & Cueto going. That leaves you with Wood, Leake or Volquez. Wood & Leake are both rookies & Volquez is spotty when they made the decision.

I said just the other day that I like this team's resiliency. They may lose these three, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them bounce back after this series. I love the Reds win or lose and I enjoy the friendly banter and jesting back and forth about as much. August 10, 201016 yr I think he's just a super competitive player. I'd love my starting ace to be like that. Super Competitive is right on. He is a different person when he starts a game. He gets in a different mode. He gets mad just giving up a a hit. I love that in him and he is a leader.

August 10, 201016 yr Man, there is some serious front-running going on here ... Leake has been solid for most of the year, even though there was reason to believe that he wouldn't be as good in the second half ... now some of you guys want to bury him. The same goes for Stubbs. Patience is a virtue when you're trying to build a team around young players.
August 10, 201016 yr No tears here. Just think they should have avoided starting a rookie in game 1 of this series. Rotation could have been tweaked imo. Lot of pressure for this kid to put into that spot.
August 10, 201016 yr I was going to go into a big thing about defending Leake, but just watch Baseball Tonight and listen to Bobby Valentine. Leake gave up sooooo many ground ball hits and there is NOTHING a pitcher can do about that. Almost all of the pitches he threw were located well(they showed this on Baseball Tonight) and they just found holes tonight. It was just one of those games that pitchers have sometimes and had nothing to do with being tired/over worked/big series/poor location.
August 10, 201016 yr The Cards base path celebration after the slam may come back to haunt them. It was a big hit but not something you want to rub in the home teams face. Fist pumping rounding the bases was over the top.
