Question for those who've played prep football

The fun part isn't running sprints in the summer heat. The part that I loved was being with friends out on the feild, hanging out in the locker rooms. The comraderie is what I miss the most. After that, the feeling of knocking someone on their backside was always pretty nice. Having the best cheering section in the state was also an added bonus.

Having never competed in nor contemplated running a marathon, I'm guessing Bugatti's analogy is spot on. Its not "fun" in the traditional sense and its certainly not for everyone. I also suspect it becomes more fun as the years go by. This time of year (2-a-days) certainly reminds me of the portion that was NOT fun but it was the price you paid to get to experience such a wonderful time.

I know this. Its tough to get out of your blood. I went to two different teams' practices last week and I have no one playing. I just enjoy watching the entire process.

Call me crazy but some of my best memories came from two a days. A lot of goofy stuff happens when you have 60+ guys together for 10 hours a day.

For anyone who ever played I would almost guarantee they would do it again if possible. If there was one more thing I got to do it would be to play one more game. As I walked off the field for the last time never played college just youth and high school the loss was devastating knowing you will never play again there is one thing for sure you will never stop wanting to do it one more time. I would go back to High School and do it over again in a heart beat. There is nothing better than Fri nights.

I played more O'line than anything, and I loved it. There was always great personal satisfaction when you make a block to spring a back for a TD or 1st down or when the Quarterback throws a TD and celebrates with you on the way to the PAT. A personal favorite was when the other teams coach was yelling at the man across from me because his uniform was only dirty on the back and we had just run the ball at him about 5 consecutive plays.

Yessir! Nothing like the feeling of satisfaction you got from feeling a quick hand on your back or bump in the hip as your tailback passed through the hole you just opened up for him, and then watching him go off to the races.

That was fun, no doubt.

Exactly. And the only "Thank you" that you got was from the RB, and you knew he meant it. No glory, just self-satisfaction knowing that you were a big part of it. Now, traps were different, you could hear the roar of the crowd once a well executed trap block was laid with the defender on his back and you laying on top of him.

When those cute 10th grade girls would stop me and ask me football questions.... Friday, game day at the school and leading up to gametime...All the hot work with little water was worth it. I got hurt my senior year (knee) went and told coach I was done. By the time August came around I was 100%...I missed too much time and Coach said NO!

I actually called him 35 years later at his home and talked with him about his decision. I'm famous arond my home for sharing this long story. Y'all are lucky.

Well let's see, I hated the offense we ran (still do), our team was average at best, and we had so much off the field garbage going on we should have had a TV show....but it was one of the best times of my life. I remember the feeling I got every friday (it lasted all day for me) and how much fun we had on and off the field. I loved playing.

So, exactly what was fun about it? kyblue mentioned some things that were fun... how would others explain how it's fun?

For instance, I can say that it's fun for me to see a comedy movie, since comedies make me laugh and I enjoy laughing. What is it about playing football make players think it's fun?

Keep in mind, I've never played organized football... so you'll have to try to frame it in a way that a non-football player can understand! :)

Friday afternoons at school talking about the game with friends. Going into the barber shop on Thursdays and having everyone talk about that Fridays game.

Game it self, With some of your best freinds playing together for one common goal.

Fridays after the games eating Pizza with you buddies laughing at all the big hits you gave and what was funnier those big hits you took.

Then the rival games. Greatest game I ever played in was regional final 1990 at Paris. Game came down to final seconds. Just seeing that crowd and everyone reaction after the win.

So of the funniest things are pranks that are played in the locker room and showers. Favorite one was catching a freshman washing his hair and sneak up behind him and pee on his back...... I remember when it was done to me.

Also just in the shower sitting in chairs talking about who you wanted to try and date. Then making fun of a guy when they said someone that was out of their league.

Friday nights were fun, getting there, not so much.. I think the not fun out weights the fun but the fun was so much fun that it's all we remember.. Does that make sense?

Same here. We had 3 weeks of them and they are remembered well among our group of guys.

We had O-tackle when I played who used to have a reputation for tossing his cookies when it got really hot out. I think he must have decorated the turf at 7 or 8 other stadiums over the years I played with him. Anyway, during two-a-days my junior year he decided it would be a good idea to bring in half of a watermelon for lunch between practices - his thinking being the watermelon would be pretty high in carbs, and it would be relatively easy on the way back up, were that to happen...

So right after the first practice, he chowed down on the watermelon, and then worked on getting some sleep in between practice, as a good number of us would usually try to do. Anyway, long story short, we went out for the second practice, and before we could finish up with the stretches, he ended up making an emergency trip back in to the bathroom - where he stayed for a good 1 1/2 hours of the afternoon practice.

So yeah....goofy stuff

That makes me laugh because our left tackle my senior season was notorious for barfing. I wonder if it's the same guy that you're refering to HAHA.

Played at X in the days of long sleeve practice jerseys, no water breaks, 2 a days and sprints everyday. Can't say it was fun then, but the thrill of victory on Friday, or a big play in which you had a hand made it worth your while. With all that, taking your pads off after the last game of the season against Flaget was somewhat devastating, knowing it would be your last day in competetive football. Not always a starter, but, would I do it again? YES! I learned things about myself and others that you don't learn in any other forum.

Since you mentioned movies let me put it this way. Think of the most suspense filled movie you could think of (can't think of one right now) everyone in the theatre is on the edge of thier seat and you can fill the tension all around you. The hero is hanging on by a thread but some how he or she (politically correct) manages to escape and they have this great sense of joy and fullfillment for accomplishing this great feat even though they are beaten down and utterly exhausted. Now multiply this by the number of team mates and you have something so special that it as, RAM was saying, is hard to put in to words let alone type. Then you add in all the times you failed to reach up and grab that life line and you have something that is indescribable to people who has not experienced it. This happens not just the end of each game in the winn/loss column but on each and every play. I hope I did not ramble on but football to me is pure passion.
