I think the 8th region will be very competitive this year. I saw a lot of the girls from the 8th playing AAU this summer, so they will probably be much improved. South Oldham(Whitfield-BA Hoyas), Owen County(Gayheart-NKY Vikings), Anderson County(Brown-KY Central Angels, McKee-KY Premier), North Oldham(Bryant-Lady Legends). All of these girls were "All 8th Region" last season. There is not one team that is "head and shoulders" above the other. A lot of the games between the top teams last season were decided by 1 or 2 points. It will be an exciting season.

1. Anderson Co. - Their youth will keep improving troughout the season; McKee is the real deal

2. South Oldham - Very athletic and can defend; Whitefield could vault to POY

3. Collins - Most of Shelby players there including Wells and you could never count out Shelby Co. in the past

4. Simon Kenton - Has one of the best coaches in region along with returning POY of region in Wainscott.

5. Owen - Gayhart along with the maturation of Neely and Waldrup make them dangerous

6. Walton - A lot of firepower but very shaky guards; if all players accept their role, they can move up

7. Oldham Co. - Can score lots of points, but have to learn to defend

8. Williamstown - Willhoite (best overall athlete in region) and West returns, but supporting cast has to step up

9. Carroll Co. - Mefford gets the most out of his team; Need scoring help for Devine

Are you kidding me? Walton has everyone back and probably will be adding a very good player in Taulbee. Walton should be right up there with Anderson at #1

Very good team assessments. I think North Oldham will be a solid team this year also.

Someone's minutes will be cut which could lead to problems. Coach Miller has a big task in front of him.

Getting Judy back from injury and adding Taulbee would be a very good thing, nothing bad at all. Taulbee would/should start along with Slavey, Ginn, Dixon, and Sandlin. Judy would be first off the bench to back up Sandlin or Dixon, plus the other quality players off the bench would keep the starters fresh. I don't think there is anyone else in the 8th region that will have the depth Walton does this year.

Cann may very well be the best young player Anderson has. Her and McKee are two really great young players. Add Brown to that and the others and you have a contender.

But, out of those wins, how many were quality wins? I give them the SK win as a quality win along with the Owen Co. wins. But from there, how many more were quality ones? They won the games they were supposed to win considering the players they have gotten. They are a very good All A school, but if they had played a schedule like Anderson, Simon Kenton, South Oldham, etc..., then they would have not had 25 wins.

Certainly, W-V is a bonafide contender to win the region crown, but not at the expense of a half dozen or so other contenders. It's waaaaaaay too early give anyone "the nod" , other than the reigning champion Lady Bearcats, who no doubt have great plans to repeat. Until Anderson is dethroned, the bragging rights belong to them. With that said, may I ask if anyone attended and noticed Kelli Dixon's stellar performance in the summer all-star tilt at Bellarmine in July??? She definitely did shine brightly against some pretty strong competition - hers was arguably the best performance of the game (or at least for the 7th/8th region girls). Enough so to merit pre-season consideration as the POY of the 8th region for 2010-11. Still, there is really only a sliver of difference, at this point, between at least six region teams, and maybe more. Another great year of play is just around the corner for region fans. It will soon be here!

Anderson was picked in the 4-8 range last year in the pre-season. So, I don't think anyone should get too excited. Truth be told, Owen, ML Collins, Anderson, Walton, South, and a few others will have a realistic shot at cutting down nets. This should prove to be another exciting year in the 8th.

She is a nice player, but I don't see Dixon winning POY. Definitely in top 6 or 7 though along with Gayhart, Wainscott, Wells, Whitfield, Willhoite. etc... The nod for POY would probably go to Wainscott, Gayhart, Wells or Whitfield. The region as well as the POY could be very tight race all year.

I assume you mean for the 2011-2012 season? Her chances of being eligable for this season are slim.

 

The KHSAA has ruled that Taulbee is eligible this season.

I predict the Lady Bearcats will win the region.
