Taulbee, Sandlin, and Slavey were on the same AAU team this summer. Yes, they can shoot, but they won one game at state AAU. A team must play defense to win. The

8th has several good, athletic teams. It will take offense, defense, and a little luck to win the region this year. I am very optimistic about South. We had a great summer.

The fact that Judy and Clinkenbeard will be able to play this season, and the addtion of Taulbee to the crew will only enhance the performance from last year. If you are expecting drama, don't. They are not new to each other. All the guards spent the off season sharing playing time. One more comment to note, Hoffa may not have performed like a true point, but you can't dismiss the stats: tied with Sandlin #1 for defensive rebounds, followed behind Dixon and Sandlin in offensive rebounds, and led the team in assists. I look forward to watching an exciting season.

Walton does return just about everyone and as someone else says adds Judy and Clinkenbeard back from injury. That should give them Dixon, Lay, Slavey, Ginn, Hoffa, Taulbee, Sandlin, Judy, Clinkenbeard and Mullikin sharing minutes. What is going to happen when "Little Sally" is sitting on the bench not getting to play. How will the Walton faithful react then when their own may not be playing as much as they think they should be?

I agree! Very excited about the Lady Panthers and I really like watching my little "home grown" team improve and play well. If I judge from the summer play this is going to be a good year for the Lady Panthers.

I think there are several other teams that many are overlooking also..but give WV their due I am sure they will be great.

 

Carroll has an outstanding coach. If they can get some scoring help for Devine, they can have a very good season.

South Oldham has a real good chance to cut the nets down in the region come March. Very athletic and defend well. It is going to be an interesting year in the 8th.

Just saying that we have no transfers.. all have been in the CC schools since they were youngsters and some of them playing for Coach since 7th grade. This is a big year for them and it will be a fun team to watch. We are a little far away to get the benefit of any transfers...

bballerfan You can't also dismiss the fact that Hoffa led the team in turnovers and averaged less than 3 points per game. Not a knock on Hoffa she's a good player, she's just a player being asked to play out of position. She can protect the ball with her body going east to west but she's not going to break down the defense off the bounce or push the ball up the the floor at the pace you would like to see from a point guard. With Taulbee and Slavey at the wings if you had a point guard that could push the ball on the break Walton would be very hard to beat. Taulbee by far is the best ball handler on the team but moving her to the point may cost some points from her being able to shoot less 3's. However for Walton to go as far as some of the fans think they can they have to solve the point guard problem. If not they will beat teams with average guards and struggle greatly against teams with solid quick backcourts.

You are right about those girls only winning one game. They lost to the Hoyas (lost by 10), Louisville Legends (lost by 9) and Sting (lost by 12). All these teams have the best players from different schools representing them and of the vikings 10 players ( 6 walton girls). They are 3 juniors, 2 sophmores, 1 freshmen, 2 Owen County players ( 1 junior and 1 sophmore) and 2 Connor players ( 2 juniors). They played up at the 16U level to get better.

 

Now one other thing that I totally disagree with is strength of schedule. All I hear is that Walton played a weak schedule last year, so lets state the facts:

 

Anderson's opponents record was .577% from last year

Simon Kenton's opponents record was .524% from last year

South Oldham's opponents record was .504% from last year

Walton's opponents record was .52% from last year

 

So how does everybody keep saying that one or the other has a tougher schedule?

Records of opponents can be very deceptive.

All I meant by saying they lost one game, was that you have to do a lot more than shoot well to win a game. The Sting actually had about 3 players that were 16U, most were 8th, ninth and 10th graders. The Hoyas also had about about 4 players playing up. I actually like to see the girls from the 8th get better because the 8th region will not get respect until we can compete well with other strong regions.
