Rookie Dez Bryant refuses to carry other players pads.

Featured Replies

Does this mean that Dez is not going to sing the fight song or perform in the rookie skit?

While its certainly a "no big deal" it also speaks to his continual exhibition of immaturity.

Wow some of you guys are way to hyped up over this. Just carry the pads like everyone else does and take it light hearted like everyone else does. Not a big deal he was just being a baby about it. Either way I don't really care though.
Exactly. I don't know how anyone could compare the dangerous and (severely) degrading practices often found in some college fraternities with this harmless tradition. What they're doing here is building camaraderie and establishing a hierarchy. Bryant should have been a man and done what the rest of his teammates were doing. Sounds like he's going to be another one of these spoiled athletes who see themselves as better than their teammates and the rest of the world. He better be able to back it up, or he will be very sorry in the NFL.

Him not wanting to be someone else's servant means that he is immature?

I don't really understand your alls thinking...Roy Williams is the one who is acting like he is better than his teammates by forcing them to carry his personal belongings...whether tradition or not.

This is not a "Roy Williams" thing. This happens at every camp in the NFL and has happened for decades.

I remember in high school it was the freshman's (or new players) duty to get all of the equipment from the locker room and ready for practice on the baseball field. If they didn't like it they could quit but all had to do it. You aren't a part of the team until you do.

Rookie hazing is usually to show that they are not better than anyone on the team and it keeps their egos in check. If he can't take this then I think it reflects on his personality. You better believe if Parcells was still there and told him to get him a cup of water (what he made all rookies do) then Dez would have done it or would have been riding the pine.

Excellent post.....Dez is acting like a moron, IMO. Shows what kind of teammate he'll be.

Yes when you follow it up with "I'm here to win championships."

This falls into the "pick your battles" category and this isn't a battle worth fighting.

This. Kids going to be a headache. Seems like you'd be sensible enough to not rock the boat when you've started on thin ice to begin with,

It's because Roy Williams is a WR as well. You better believe if there was a rookie TE or QB on the team then Romo and Witten would be right there with it.

When I was at Trinity as a sophomore you were chosen by a senior to carry their equipment to green line everyday. When you became a senior, you chose a sophomore. If you were fortunate enough to know which practice was going to be your last practice, the sophomore carried the actual senior. It was major fun.

Comparing high school sports to this is as much apples and oranges as it it to compare this to fraternity hazing.

How so?

For what it's worth, they did a poll on ESPN and the results showed that 73% think that Dez should carry the bags. What an idiotic way to start one's pro career. Bad move. While he has million dollar talent, he has a ten cent head. Great.
