Rookie Dez Bryant refuses to carry other players pads.

Featured Replies

"I'm not doing it," Bryant said. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads."

Should he have taken his pads? Yes. Is this a big deal? No.

He's getting ready to take his job. May as well have taken his pads.

Although it's not a big deal it's something every rookie goes through and Dez is no different.

Guess he never watched hard knocks. Some young TO in him.

That doesn't make it right.

I don't blame him for not carry other people's pads. If this were a fraternity story, people on this board would be talking about how immature and dumb hazing is...but this is acceptable?

If personal servitude isn't acceptable for fraternities, it shouldn't be for Professional athletes either. Good for Dez Bryant!

The hazing that goes on in fraternities and those that happen in professional athletes are completely different and that's a fact.

1) Hazing is hazing. It's either acceptable or it isn't.

2) Fraternities make pledges do stuff like this, and would get in a lot of trouble for it.

If picking up pads were a form of hazing in fraternities who would care? Apples and oranges IMO. If Roy made him chug a fifth of vodka and make him sit on all fours for hours and take dip spit in the face, then yes Dez should stand up for himself. It's taking in a set of shoulder pads. Every rookie does it not just Dez. Why should he be treated any differently?

Hazing is hazing...this is an acceptable form. He should have taken the pads.

Why does every rookie doing it make it okay?

He gets paid to be a professional athlete, not an equipment manager.

Hazing, no matter the action, is typically defined as the act of making someone feel inferior than another. Granted there are many different froms (physical, psychological, and etc.)

The same question I would have for fraternity members that haze their pledges, "How is this going to make them a better active member?". For Roy Williams, "How does this make him a better teammate?"

At the end of the day, it isn't right and like I said, good for Dez Bryant for refusing. Maybe some others with follow him and take a stand, ending this pointless tradition.

Any new guys working any job usually start out getting shafted in their duties. They work their way up the totum pole. Roy went through it so should he.
