Another lackluster Sunday performance by the Red's offense. Since being 30-20 on the 29th of May the Reds are 25-25 with 10 of those losses being shutouts. This team has to get refocused offensively and needs a boost from somewhere. Maybe it's a trade for some offense maybe it's just a kick in the butt from the "toothpick" but this team is not good enough to turn it off and on and win the division and the way the West is shaping up it may not be good enough to win the wildcard. Nevertheless something needs to happen to get this team on a roll. They can't just keep playing .500 ball and expect to make the playoffs.

If the Reds could eliminate Sunday from the schedule they would be fine. This loss drops the Reds to 6-10 on Sundays. They have suffered 6 of their 12 shutouts on Sundays as well including 3 in a row. If you take out their 14-3 clubbing of Chicago on July 4th they have scored only 32 runs in 15 Sunday contests.

The road trip to the West coast next month scares me bigtime!

The road trip to the West coast next month scares me bigtime!

The West Coast trip in August 2006 cost the Reds a shot at the playoffs. The big difference this year is pitching, Reds are one of only 3 teams in National League with a winning road record. They have a poor track record when going to the left coast, but at least they will avoid any prolonged losing streak because of how good their starting pitching has been this year.

It looks like this race just might come down to the final week of the season.
