July 20, 201016 yr They have a chance, but it could easily turn in to the same story of the last several years where they have a winning record but come short of making the big leap. For at least the last 4 years UK has had teams that could have beaten South Carolina and Tennessee. And they are 0-8 just in those games. They run .500 against Miss. State in that same time period. UK still has a lot of question marks too. They will be very thin at D line if the rumors are true and two players are academically ineligible. If Locke gets back to full form and can run at top speed healthy all season they will have a very solid run game. The passing game is still very questionable though. Hartline isn't nearly as bad as it seems at times. The problem for Hartline is UK is a school where you need a game changer QB to make up for other deficiencies on the field at times. Hartline is simply a game manager and as such you can't necessarily rely on him to make that over the top type of play Andre Woodson would have made. For a successful year though UK has to win the Louisville game. If UK fails to start out 3-0 it could be a very long season. The Florida game Uk probably wouldn't win anyways so might as well have it on the road. But follow that up with Ole Miss is dangerous. UK is good enough to beat Ole Miss but on the road the week after Florida is a tough draw for that game. Especially when you have 3 HUGE home games following the Ole Miss game. Of the Auburn, South Carolina, UGA stretch at home UK has to win 1 to come anywhere close to a successful season. I would probably say need to win two of those to have a truly big season. IF somehow UK could reach the end of that home stretch at 6-2 they will be set up for the best season since 1978. Still a chance of that even if they are 5-3 right here. But if UK is 4-4 this season will wind up being another 8-5 or 7-6 type season that they've had last few years. Miss State on the road is a tough but winnable game. The cowbells being legal now will make Davis Wade Stadium a much harder place to win at. Charleston So and Vandy are two layups. If UK can't 2-0 in these two then they will have already lost bowl eligibility anyway before this point in the season Which leaves us with good ole Tennessee. If UK is EVER going to beat Tennessee it has to be this year. UK has a lot of juniors and seniors starting for them and UT is as weak as they've ever been. New coach with almost no resume as a head coach, lost every starter on the offensive line, will start a true freshman or juco transfer at QB, lost their top 2 runningbacks, lost Berry. Also the first time in over two decades Neyland Stadium didn't sell out of season tickets. If not this year then most of us will probably die without seeing UK beat UT. Realistically I see UK at 8-5 with a bowl game. Could go to 9-4 or slip to 7-6 though.
July 20, 201016 yr I'm worried about UK this year. Huge holes on the Oline, and all over the back 7 of the defensive I think. QB is a huge question mark as well until proven otherwise. But outside of playing against Florida (or Bama if UK played them), I think Cobb gives them a shot to beat anyone if they can keep the game close. That said I would be very happy with 8 and 5 all things considered. I wouldn't complain about 7-6.

Realistically I see UK at 8-5 with a bowl game. Could go to 9-4 or slip to 7-6 though. I couldn't agree more. This year has some serious potential, not because we are much (if any) better than the previous years, but because the schedule sets up so nicely. They HAVE to beat Miss. State, Louisville, Akron, WKU, Vandy, and CSouth without a doubt. Auburn and UGA are very winnable at home considering we beat them both on the road last year and Ole Miss is beatable - got my tickets and hotel confirmed for my first trip to The Grove. USC at home...well, I don't even want to talk about Spurrier but it could be another win. UF - that would take a miracle and this MUST be the year for us to beat UT...confirmed for those tickets too. UT is so bad at selling tickets this year they made Comcast - where I work an offer that EVERY employee could buy tickets at 1/2 price since we are Corp. Sponsers. So, what does that make us after all the talk.....anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3 and headed to another bowl. Who knows...it is UK.

July 21, 201016 yr Author Chip Cosby just twittered from Media Day that Paul Warford is not listed on the roster and Mister Cobble is on the 3rd team Crawford is listed 1st string DT and Neloms will start at CB.
July 21, 201016 yr Author Chip Cosby also twittered Bowling Green native and Colorado transfer Ryan Wallace moves from TE to RT. Listed third-team behind Durham and Woods in media guide.
July 21, 201016 yr What happened to Warford? Joker says Cobble has work to do and 3 incoming frosh are still trying to become eligible.
July 21, 201016 yr I had heard rumblings sometime back that Warford might become an academic casualty this fall. I read somewhere that Cobble has some work to do to get academically eligible (summer school?), but he can still do that and play this season.
July 21, 201016 yr I had heard rumblings sometime back that Warford might become an academic casualty this fall. Isn't this the second time Warford has missed a season due to academics? Does he have any time left?
July 21, 201016 yr Paul "Toast" Warford being gone doesn't bother me at all. Cobble being out would hurt, though.
July 22, 201016 yr I think this year UK is going to surprise some people. I agree, we've been used to 7 and 8 wins for the four years, however, I believe we'll be surprised when we win 4 or 5. I hope not, but I have a bad feeling from this bunch. If we win 7 or 8, it will be awesome. It will be the fifth year with as many wins and as a traditional bottom dweller in SEC football, we have to endure consistency of 7 or 8 wins for quite some time and then we can take the next step of winning 8,9 and maybe 10 wins in a 5-10 years. It takes time. We just cannot afford to go backward in the win column and lose all the momentum we've gained the last four years.

That is the unfortunate condition for programs like UK around the country you are always just one bad year away from undoing 3 to 4 years of great progress.
July 22, 201016 yr I think this year UK is going to surprise some people. The only question I have, and it's a biggie. On a neutral field, could Kentucky play with Simon Kenton?
