July 22, 201016 yr That is the unfortunate condition for programs like UK around the country you are always just one bad year away from undoing 3 to 4 years of great progress. Yes they are. :thumb: I think one bad year would really set UK back, especially with a new coach.
July 22, 201016 yr The only question I have, and it's a biggie. On a neutral field, could Kentucky play with Simon Kenton? Probably, but I would take St. X by a TD.
July 22, 201016 yr They have a chance, but it could easily turn in to the same story of the last several years where they have a winning record but come short of making the big leap. For at least the last 4 years UK has had teams that could have beaten South Carolina and Tennessee. And they are 0-8 just in those games. They run .500 against Miss. State in that same time period. UK still has a lot of question marks too. They will be very thin at D line if the rumors are true and two players are academically ineligible. If Locke gets back to full form and can run at top speed healthy all season they will have a very solid run game. The passing game is still very questionable though. Hartline isn't nearly as bad as it seems at times. The problem for Hartline is UK is a school where you need a game changer QB to make up for other deficiencies on the field at times. Hartline is simply a game manager and as such you can't necessarily rely on him to make that over the top type of play Andre Woodson would have made. For a successful year though UK has to win the Louisville game. If UK fails to start out 3-0 it could be a very long season. The Florida game Uk probably wouldn't win anyways so might as well have it on the road. But follow that up with Ole Miss is dangerous. UK is good enough to beat Ole Miss but on the road the week after Florida is a tough draw for that game. Especially when you have 3 HUGE home games following the Ole Miss game. Of the Auburn, South Carolina, UGA stretch at home UK has to win 1 to come anywhere close to a successful season. I would probably say need to win two of those to have a truly big season. IF somehow UK could reach the end of that home stretch at 6-2 they will be set up for the best season since 1978. Still a chance of that even if they are 5-3 right here. But if UK is 4-4 this season will wind up being another 8-5 or 7-6 type season that they've had last few years. Miss State on the road is a tough but winnable game. The cowbells being legal now will make Davis Wade Stadium a much harder place to win at. Charleston So and Vandy are two layups. If UK can't 2-0 in these two then they will have already lost bowl eligibility anyway before this point in the season Which leaves us with good ole Tennessee. If UK is EVER going to beat Tennessee it has to be this year. UK has a lot of juniors and seniors starting for them and UT is as weak as they've ever been. New coach with almost no resume as a head coach, lost every starter on the offensive line, will start a true freshman or juco transfer at QB, lost their top 2 runningbacks, lost Berry. Also the first time in over two decades Neyland Stadium didn't sell out of season tickets. If not this year then most of us will probably die without seeing UK beat UT. Realistically I see UK at 8-5 with a bowl game. Could go to 9-4 or slip to 7-6 though. I think 8-5 is probably about where I hope they will be. Very good analysis on your part!!

July 29, 201016 yr I got to go to the Governor's Cup cocktail party, golf outing and luncheon. Got to meet Joker and we talked quite a bit. He is a great guy very approachable and interesting guy to talk football with. He is very sure he has the Cats on the right track to move up in the SEC. If I knew how to post I would post my picture with him. Here are a few other former Cats I got to meet: Art Still,Derrick Ramsey,Fran Curzi,Bill Ransdell,Lester Boyd,Jeff Van Note,Roger Bird. I was shocked that the live auction dinner with Joker went higher than dinner with Strong especially since the event was in Louisville. August 4, 201016 yr Mychal Bailey has finally gotten the grades to suit up for the cats and should compete for the safety spot from day 1. Donte Rumph has also finally passed prep school to play for the cats and should give good relief at the DE spot. I'm looking forward to a breakout year for UK.
