I completely expect him to lead the team in scoring and to have the ball at the end of games because the Heat are his team. It's going to be hard to argue against that.

Maybe that's what LeBron wants. He has always seemed more like a Shaq time player to me anyways. i.e. worried about the glamour, having fun, and making a name for himself. This way he can win championships and do all the things he really cares about while making good money.

Can't compare Garnett's title to Jordan's or Kobe's IMO. For starters, Jordan won 6, Kobe won 5 and Garnett only has won 1. Jordan won 6 Finals MVPs, Kobe won 2, Garnett 1. Jordan and Kobe won their titles on their original teams, Garnett accepted a trade to the Celtics after they traded for Ray Allen.

 

Garnett also went to the Celtics who had a coach with a losing record, and two stars that had never won or been to the Finals. Big difference in that and LeBron teaming up with a former Finals MVP and Pat Riley who has numerous championships. What LeBron is doing is unprecedented IMO.

True. However, if LeBron goes to Miami I could also see him silently take over the team. In his own way of saying...."you wanted me here so get out of my way". Very intriguing if he picks Miami.

Name one other great player in NBA history who has done what LeBron is doing. Don't give me Bosh or some other all-star either. I'm talking all-timers, not just all-stars.

Wilt Chamberlain did basically the same thing. This was a time in which free agency was not as prevalent but guys often opted to get traded to where they felt would give them the best shot at championship glory.

 

Clyde Drexler got his request honored to be traded to the Rockets to be a part of a contender. And to win a CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

Dennis Rodman wanted to win another ring and found his way onto a Bulls roster.

 

Shaq had a promising Magic team that had went to the Finals, but opted to leave for LA in hopes of getting a ring.

 

KG and Ray Allen teaming up with Pierce and the Celtics, both on ring quests.

 

 

 

 

Many guys have done what Lebron is thinking about doing and perhaps will do tonight at 9. It doesn't make him evil, it just shows he wants to win. Winning is the ultimate goal, and I am very proud that superstars still value winning and not the almighty dollar in todays sports world. You can spin it any way you want, but it boils down to the fact that Garnett did essentially the same thing. He and another star went to a team with yet another established star. Literally the only difference is that Miami made a great run in 2006 to win the Finals. Outside of that, where has that team been? They have not won a playoff series since. I fail to see what Pat Riley has to do with your scenario, given that he is the team president. He is not coach at the moment, and I don't think he'll swoop in again the way he did before.

 

As to my Jordan and Kobe comparisons, the difference there is that the Bulls and Lakers did far more to compliment their talent than the Cavs ever thought about doing. My point there is that Jordan and Kobe had the luxury of winning titles with their original teams because the management of said teams was worth a darn.

 

Lastly, one of my other points was that Garnett is still the face of that team, even though it was Pierce's first. Someone in one of these threads talked about LBJ not coming off the bench last because it will still be Wade, a sign that it's not his team. Garnett doesn't come off last, Pierce does. Yet when people think about whose team that is, I think they think of Garnett first these days. I know I do.

Garnett has also said that he wished he wasn't so loyal to Minnesota and that he had tested the free agent market earlier in his career. I believe he even mentioned that to LeBron which then led to LeBron mentioning that he was worried about staying Cleveland because he didn't "want to be 31 with bad knees and no title."

Before Magic came to the Lakers Kareem was also quoted as saying "all I do his shoot hook shots and get paid". Magic Johnson rejuvenated Kareem and carried Kareem to more titles.

I heard that but I am not fully buying it yet. Their story comes from "sources" and we know how reliable those are. Plus, he is in Carmelo's wedding this weekend. Not saying it is not true, but that seems a little too convenient.
