IMO, President Obama has been demonstrated arrogance on occasion and has been wrong for doing so. Not admitting to it makes it even worse. The same was true for President Bush.

When Obama talks about America, its businesses and its institutions all he does is downgrade them in some manner or another.

It is no wonder that many see nothing but a negative spin from this individual.

Not at all to the original topic, but here are some questions I've been pondering for some time. These questions are not aimed at foreign policy, but at citizen mindset.

 

How long do we use the "we saved Europe in WWII" excuse to demand respect and rationalize arrogance?

When do we stop thinking "our way" is the always "right" way?

When is it appropriate to admit we've failed ourselves, and at times our allies?

At what point do we begin to shift the focuse from military dominance as equal to power?

 

Just some thoughts I've been kicking around.

 

I can't answer them all. But, on the second one, my initial thought was when somebody shows us a better way. Has their ever been a system that allowed the equality, power and prosperity for common citizens that the United States of America has? Obviously, there are those that don't want that and I'm certainly not in favor of forcing our views on those that do not want it. And, maybe it isn't the "right" way. But, its undoubtedly the best way. At least for the average citizen. Unfortunately, I don't think it will work anywhere and everywhere. I think it was John Adams who said our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people, that it was wholly inadequate for any other. I tend to agree. It works when the country by and large believes in God and accepts the morality set forth by that belief. It falls apart when that foundation begins to fail...or it fails altogether if that foundation isn't in place.

When a comparsion is made to Hitler's Nazi regime, it is often done in relation to the totalitarian government he created. Not the death camps he created or the war he started. Some people just cannot seem to believe our freedoms can be lost through our own government. I understand. I was just pointing out that it was religious, not Christian, as so many seem to want us to be a Christian nation or get offended if someone says that we aren't, such as in the letter from post #1.
