Anyways, that would be awesome if my team was heading to somewhere like Notre Dame. Sad that the Khsaa is against teams wanting ti improve themselves and exposing their players to scouts. But whatever.

 

Calm down Outoftouch, this is no big deal. This is great day for HHS.

Again, they have followed the rules and have potentially thrarwted a violation by the way the rule is construed. Kudos, to all of those in charge at HHS to make this dissappointing but vital decision on behalf of the program. I believe the communication between powers to be and the administration has prevailed again.

I know the boys are dissappointed but Highlands is Highlands because they dont break the rules and the program comes first.

I don't get it. Nothing stops a summer basketball/baseball team from playing games during the dead period, even if the team consists of all players from the same school. Simply put, you can't use the school's name, uniforms, equipment, facilities, or coaches (paid or volunteer), buses, and it can not be financed by any organization affiliated with the school. This would not be doing any of those things.

Nothing against basketball, but if basketball is the reason for no 7 on 7 in June, what does that say about the AAU influence in the KHSAA?

This was much ado about nothing. It was briefly mentioned in passing, by a Highlands person, and was left at that. It was a non-issue from the start.

Yes, there is a rule against it. The definition of what makes it a team event provides the gray area. So, a group of players, who all go to the same school, go to an outside tournament on their own in another state, and even if they are not using any school equipment, the scenario COULD be construed as a team event. In the end, fighting the various interpretations of the Dead Period rules just isn't a battle worth getting into.

“This battle with Kentucky and Louisville has helped football in this state. But I think the guy who changed football, in my opinion, in this state was Hal Mumme when he came in throwing the ball all over the place. High schools usually do what the state university is doing, and when he came in throwing that got more teams putting in his system that made more athletes come out for football.

 

“I just hope our high school athletic association can continue to allow high schools to do seven-on-seven (workouts) in June (against other teams). The level has risen because of seven-on-seven workouts, and now it has been taken away. We could not have them this year, and that’s not good for high school football in our state.

 

“So I think the biggest impact on football in this state was Hal Mumme, and he could continue to have a big impact if coaches can do seven-on-seven in June and keep the best athletes coming out.”

It would be harder for football players not to use school equipment. I am not a football guy but I don't see every football player having the necessary eqiupment.
