June 19, 201016 yr Two games and two draws and you think that is great................ok. Pity you have such a little understanding of the game of "Football" (soccer) in the World Cup! Do you and others not understand that once you are done with the group matches, indeed there are no more ties for the rest of the WC! :irked::irked:
June 19, 201016 yr Sorry, but until soccer eliminates ties I can never fully support it. Say I don't understand the game or what not...but I'd rather not understand it until there are winners and losers. So on June 26th when the Knockout rounds start (no ties), you will love and totally support the game? FIFA and the rest of the World can't wait!
June 19, 201016 yr You know I love you TOG and have played quite a bit of competitive soccer, but watching it is boring. The ties are where they lose me. When the World Cup ends in a shootout and it has -that is a terrible way to end a tournament too. Pity you have such a little understanding of the game of "Football" (soccer) in the World Cup! I can't watch something for nearly 2 hours and it just keep ending in a tie it makes no sense. It will never ever really catch on until they fix that and get a real clock so they ref doesn't just add on a few extra minutes of time at the game and we have no idea when they game is going to end. I know soccer people will say I don't understand the game or whatever but until these stupid rules of the game are fixed I will never care about this sport other than watching for 5 minutes during the world cup.
June 19, 201016 yr Pretty obvious someone doesn't understand soccer.... Whom the guy in your avatar? Edited June 19, 201016 yr by History wanted to be more specific but held back

Overtime in the NFL is probably just as dumb, if not worse, but that doesn't change the millions of fans of the game.
June 19, 201016 yr The thing I find funny about all of you who hate soccer, think its boring or annoying...ya'll comment on it just as much if not more then the fans of the game.
June 19, 201016 yr Watching soccer is far more enjoyable that watching golf (where the whispering commentators lull me to sleep) or bowling (where the "sport" itself lulls me to sleep).
June 20, 201016 yr I'm sure soccer is a very exciting and entertaining sport, or the rest of the world wouldn't be so wild about it. But my problem with it (and most people in my county---our school system doesn't have a soccer team) is I don't know the rules of the game well enough to find it interesting. I'm the same way about hockey. It's just a foreign sport to people in my area. One of my golfing buddies said the other day he had just as soon watch paint dry as to watch soccer. He'd tried to watch one of the USA games and said he lasted about 10 minutes before he changed the channel.
June 21, 201016 yr The ties to me are like a bad day on the golf course....I don't like them, but I still go back. I have been involved with soccer for a long time and was part of the board of a youth organization for a number of years. We tried everything we could think of to eliminated ties in playoff situations...extra overtimes, pulling off players, etc... there is just no clear, satisfying way to settle a tie sometimes, and the players just can't play forever. At least, there are very few moments in sports that are any more intense than a penalty kick situation for a win. The cruelty of winning or losing is much like that of a full count, two outs bases loaded at bat, last inning, down a run....somebody is going to be sad.

A tie in this round makes perfect sense, in the actually sweet 16 part of the tournament there will be no ties.

June 21, 201016 yr I rather enjoy the matches. I have never been a big soccer fan, but I enjoy the World Cup.
