This Conference Shake Up?

Texas has NO desire to be part of the SEC. The SEC is looked down upon academically and culturally. The University of Texas and Austin in particular is a very culturally diverse place that puts a premuim on being looked upon like UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal, etc... If the SEC wants to add teams, it appears they will have to raid the ACC and possibly the Big East.

But in truth (and no one is saying this) if Texas goes to the SEC they immediately have to compete with Florida, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia who have just as fertile recruiting grounds and just as rabid a fanbase. Not to mention the next tier which includes Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas (and whatever else would come over in expansion).

By going to this new Pac-10 the 'Horns immediately have to compete with USC, Oklahoma, and perhaps Oregon. The second tier includes Oregon State, Cal, UCLA, and Texas A&M. You tell me which one looks tougher?

I'm not saying Texas is ducking the SEC because it would likely be the smart move for them to go to the Pac-10. But to me it looks like Texas can do an easier job maintaining their Top-5 national status by choosing the Pac-10. The academic excuse is a convenient way to decline any overtures from the SEC.

Thats what I'm saying, academics have absolutely nothing to do with this, it is all about money, and we all know the SEC makes the most of it when it comes to football. If Texas really wants to show they are elite, they come to the SEC. With you I doubt they do this because they will be just another fish in a big pond instead of being a big fish in a small pond. Academics has nothing to do with this scenario other than the way some of these schools qualify (main reason you wont see schools like Louisville and Cinci in the ACC or other power conference). The Big 12 looks to be going down, and if it cannot hold itself together Texas will jump. If it still wants to dominate or have a chance to dominate it goes to the new Pac 16. If it wants to be part of an elite conference and prove it is elite, and still have a chance at a National Title with a two or three loss season (see LSU a couple of years ago) Texas choses to join the SEC and make it a powerhouse conference, financially and athletically.

The Big 10 schools actually receive more money than the SEC schools.

And the academic part isn't about qualifying or anything like that. It's about getting research $$$'s!

One rumor is Texas A & M to the SEC

That would be OK, but if it happens I hope Texas decides to come too (If the SEC is interested in expanding). Both would be good additions to the SEC. IMO they would be a better fit in the SEC than the PAC 10.

The research $$'s are HUGE. And you are correct, the Big 10 gets a lot more $$ than the SEC.

Basketball should create a Super Conference IMO. Could you imagine putting together a league of all the heavy weights? Maybe an East, Central and Western Conference.

It wouldn't look great for records but a league of UK, U of L, Duke, UNC, Syracuse, GTown, Nova, Pitt, and others would be great basketball.

It would be fun basketball to watch, but would ruin places like BGP lol. What would we argue about all day between Duke vs. UK, or other combos if they play each other every year. That eliminates about 50% of the posts on here during college bball season lol.

Good point, so with respect to the Guru and the BGP family I take back my Super Basketball Conference idea :thumb:.

Did I see Kansas to the Mountain West? If thats the case maybe the SEC should step up and take Kansas and Kansas State.

It won't be a good move football wise.

Yes I saw that as well. Missouri was on that list too.

VERY unlikely at this point in the process...
