Again with the "facts" where there are no facts. You don't know where the money is coming from, so can you please stop assuming its a foreigner with ill-will towards the US?

I am saying the immediate area around footprint of the towers should be somewhat protected from any unwelcome or controversial development from any source. You know I am not a big government person. But here a designation of 'historic place' that has some level of review should be done. Mega-Mosque, super-church, giant-McDonalds, it does not matter. The surrounding area is "Ground Zero". And though the entire area can not and should not be preserved as a museum, it should be carefully guarded as a national landmark. I believe it is a national landmark, just as Gettysburg or Fredericksburg is.

Isn't the site of the proposed mosque a couple of blocks away from the actual site of Ground Zero?

 

I can't buy that the building was "in the shadow of the WTC" or that it is "within sight" of the WTC site as worthy of beign deemed "immediate area". And what is controversial to one, may not be to another.

 

I can only conclude that you are a cynic and skeptic, incapable of believing that good intent could be what's fueling the project.

 

I find that to be a major difference in myself an many others I know. I have never been able to believe the worst first, and look for the good. I've been called idealistic for that. But, that's OK, I think. I live a very peaceful, happy life not expecting that everything is nefarious, and assuming that people are good.

 

Maybe you have never been to Ground Zero, or the Vietnam memorial or to Kent State or Oklahoma City. Maybe you should if you have not. Maybe you should work with someone whose sister-in-law was a flight attendant on one of the planes, maybe you should meet orphans from that days events. Maybe it will alter your thinking.

The backers of this project know exactly the hurt they are causing. It is they who are being disrespectful and egging on this issue. There are plenty of available properties in lower Manhattan. The actions here are deliberate and direct. And those actions are the cause of the current strife - not religious intolerance.

While I'm still waiting for you to respond to my last post directed at you, I'll refresh your memory here. I said it's all about facts. Give me facts that this is planned to be a "martyr marker". Otherwise I say it's still just your uninformed opinion.

 

If it was a proven fact to be a martyr marker then it wouldn't be building. You have to use some common sense. I know as does everyone else, that Muslims do have a history of martyr marking where they feel there has been victories.
