May 26, 201016 yr :thumb: Leake is a much better offensive option right now than the waste of roster space Drew Stubbs. The waste of roster space Drew Stubbs? Do you mean the Drew Stubbs who has hit .292 over the past week, with 1 HR, 3 RBI and 2 SB? Sure, he's struck out 7 times and only walked 3, but I wouldn't call that a waste of roster space. So, maybe you mean the waste of roster space Drew Stubbs who has hit .247 over the past month, with 4 HR, 15 RBI and 6 SB? Again, he strikes out too much (27 times, compared to 9 BB), but he's far from a wasted spot on the roster. Or, maybe you mean the waste of roster space Drew Stubbs who has hit .315 in 15 games with 3 HR, 15 RBI, 3 doubles & 1 triple from the 7 spot in the order? Which one is it?

Actually it's the Drew Stubbs that's hitting .213 with 5 HR, 21 RBI and 48 SOs in 42 games this year. He's a huge liability at the plate. He isn't ready for major league pitching.

Stubbs is not ready to carry a lineup, nor is he ready to be an everyday leadoff hitter on the major league level. But, I've been very pleased with his production in the bottom of the order & his defense in centerfield. Stubbs is also hitting .297 with RISP, and has an OBP% of .400 in such situations, with 2 HR & 18 RBI. With RISP with 2 outs, Stubbs is hitting .333 with a double, triple, and 9 RBI. He's walked 4 times and struck out 7 in 21 AB ( 25 PA).

Who do you suggest the Reds replace him with then? I don't see many other options for them. Besides he has started to do better since he got out of the 8 spot. The best way for him to get ready for major league pitching is by facing major league pitching. Being in the 7 or 8 spot is perfect for him.

Dusty has been looking for a reason to sit Votto and Phillips for a game to give him a break. I'm not buying the sore neck excuse. Janish's grandmother passed away & he is in the Houston-area for her funeral.
May 26, 201016 yr I had no problem at all with that, and yes the bullpen has been used a lot lately, and they have 9 more games in a row before a day off. Leake has shown he can handle the bat. He almost yanked a breaking ball out of the yard, but was just out in front of it a bit. You had 2 starters on the bench (Bruce and Cabrera) who were available to PH. I'm sure you agree that they're better options. While you need to rest the bullpen as much as possible IMO you have to take your best shot at scoring there.

You have to take into consideration how well Leake was pitching, his pitch count, Bruce's average against lefties, and Cairo's average overall. I think Dusty made the correct call.
