It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Dusty, and some of his moves, but you've got to give him credit, the Reds are playing some of their best baseball in years. They have now gone 16-5 since his tirade after a lackluster performance against the Padres on a Saturday afternoon 3 weeks ago.

Let's see a show of hands who actually believe "ole toothpick" is to any great degree responsible for how well the team has played over the last three weeks. I am certainly not one of them. I believe it has to do with the players hitting, pitching, and catching the baseball. Baker was a poor manager yesterday, was poor again today, and will be poor again this time tomorrow and will be the same next month. The Bengals won 10 games with one of the very worst coaches in the game calling the shots. Baker is only slightly better than Lewis. Sometimes it happens; a team gets hot despite it's poor coach or manager. Hopefully, the Reds will continue to win despite Baker. Those who dare sing his praises on this hot streak will be cursing him if and when the walls come tumbling down. I speak of him now just as I will later because I realize that he is as poor a skipper today as he will be two or three months from today. Both Dusty and Marvin seem like really nice, sincerely sweet men. This is nothing personal. They are just bad at what they do... and everyone on here knows it.

I think there is more to managing a baseball team than setting lineups and making pitching changes. Sure, we can puzzle over some of the moves he makes and pin a loss on him when he does something inexplicable, but there are other components to managing, especially within the clubhouse we don't get to see and the players certainly seem to speak highly of him in that regard. Something is being done correctly right now somewhere in this organization and I'm enjoying it and hoping it lasts. I'd much rather this than for the Reds to go on a massive losing streak and hope Dusty gets replaced by the All-Star break.

I agree. There may be some intangibles that the guy is doing well. I don't know what those intangibles are, but he may be doing them. I will root passionately for the team, win or lose. I would much rather see the team win, win, and win some more than see Baker relieved of his duties. Ideally, I'd love to see them win without Baker's hindrance, but it is what it is. I still say he will directly cost you 8 games a year. He does seem like a nice guy. You know what they say about nice guys, though.

I don't know what you all think, but these two games against the Brewers were great by our Cincinnati Reds. I was at GABP during the Monday night game, as well as the Tuesday afternoon game and it was awesome seeing the Reds win both of these games and hang on to first place.

 

But...

 

What do they have to do to increase attendance? 12,000 Monday night and 17,000 today? I know the weather was bad both games and Buffet was in town on Monday night, but I sure hope the numbers pick up if they stay hot through this roadtrip.

Even though I can't stand Dusty Baker I always believe they can win and root for that despite some of the moves he makes. I have been a season ticket holder for probably longer than you are old and will continue to root for the home team. I have watched a lot of managers and can tell you when they had good ones and when they had duds. I can only hope that when Dusty's contract is up they bring in a manager that knows how to drill fundamentals and develop all these young players.
