May 12, 201016 yr The only problem if he is the 3rd string and is active on game days that takes the place of another position player. Its usually a special teams guy but that may be something to think about as well. I know he is cheap but I don't think he is worth a roster spot on game days. Who knows the Bengals could turn him around to the next David Carr. A bust but a guy that can step in a play a little and hang on in the league.

JaMarcus Russell would be a complete and total waste of money for the Bengals and probably anyone else. The guy was overrated in college because he was physically gifted and surrounded by future NFL players at every position while at LSU. Bottom line is he isn't smart enough to play QB in the NFL. And, by all accounts his work ethic is non-existent. Why on earth would the Bengals (or anyone else) want him? Would anyone want Russell had he not been picked #1 overall? What is the difference between Russell and Jared Lorenzen? Big guys, cannon arms, questionable work ethic...where's J-Lo at right now? Where would he be had he played at LSU with future NFL players and been the #1 overall pick?

I would think with his work ethic (or lack thereof) it'll only serve as justification for him to work and prepare less than what he's done previously given that he'll know it's unlikely he'll see the field. All the talent in the world (which of course he does NOT have) means nothing if your head isn't screwed on right. He's lazy - and plenty of his teammates have stated as much - and not someone I'd ever want to see behind center for the Bengals. O'Sullivan doesn't give us a great option either, but he's more serviceable than Russell. And at the end of the day, how many teams have truly legitimate quality backup anyway? For the vast majority of teams, if your #1 QB goes down, your season ends with it.
