Maybe the 5 star guys not coming may benefit UK.

If we dont get qll of these 1 and dones then maybe we can get some solid 4 star guys who will develop into a great player in 4 years. I really believe maturity helps win in the Big Dance. Not to say a few automatic NBAers wouldnt help. But we need some 4 year guys.

I just want two guys that contribute in the 4-5 positions next year. It would be nice if one of them were 6'10" or taller. A project is fine, just need someone who can rebound and defend IMO. I think between Kanter, Knight and the rest of the squad getting points will be easier than expected.

Yeah right. Come on. People always want to complain. Either UK doesn't have enough talent but then they have to much. I will pick too much talent every time.

I agree with the premise of your argument. It is still rare to get one and done type talents. This past season was a rarity and the NBA climate propelled a couple from this year's team to declare that not normally would have.

I'll take the talent every time. Give me 4 ***** guys every year, and I'll give you "a couple" 3-4 year guys each year, and let's see who has more success.

Bottomline, talent wins more often than not. For the life of me, I could never understand why someone would want less talented guys.

While I understand your point about talent, consider that for the 2009-2010 season, UK possessed more talent than any other team in the nation, and yet they didn't even advance to the Final Four. I don't know much about basketball, but when I watched the UK-WV game it was clear that the UK players completely panicked when they got down by double-digits in the second half. They had tons of time to make up the point differential by playing to their strength (i.e., the inside game), and yet what did they do? They resorted to throwing up an insane number of 3-pointers, which was crazy given that long-range shooting was their offensive weakness. The big reason UK lost that game was their inexperience, in my opinion. A team with better leadership would not have reacted the way UK did in the second half of that game.

While I would prefer to have talented guys on the team (as opposed to less talented guys), I do offer this: if every year UK basically has a "brand-new" team chock full of guys who are 5-star talent but freshmen, with little upperclassman leadership (i.e., UK in 2009/2010 and apparently UK again in 2010/2011), they will not make it to many Final Fours and will not win ANY NCAA titles.

Oh absolutely and Cal knows this.....he put a large band aid on this past year. Things will shake out just fine. Izzo usually has the right mesh, I like his mold.

I agree that you need some experience, but everyone acts like losing 5 guys early is the norm for Cal, and what he always shoots for. That isn't the case.

:thumb: Exactly. And if that were the norm, that would be a good problem to have

How much difference is there in a 4 and a 5 star?

1 star

How much difference is there in a 4 and a 5 star?

Derrick Rose was a 5 star PG out of HS.

DeAndre Liggins was a 4 star PG out of HS.

That should show the difference...

That shows how poorly these services predict potential other than the obvious cant-misses.

Maybe that's the answer to my question. 5-stars are obvious. Every other rating is just a SWAG.

This is one of those rare occurrences where you and I agree. All those guys coming in at once was necessary, and nobody felt that many would leave. I can't imagine Calipari wants to work that hard during the offseason every single year with the pressure on him to bring in a whole roster of five-star kids to replace outgoing players. I don't know a coach who doesn't value some semblance of roster continuity.

And as is the case when Deuce and I agree, everyone else is unquestionably wrong and the thread can be considered complete.
