Maybe the 5 star guys not coming may benefit UK.

There will be that many again in the 2011 class...

Teague (or was it Gilchrist?) said he wanted to build a dynasty. He's totally staying all 4 years!

This is one of those rare occurrences where you and I agree. All those guys coming in at once was necessary, and nobody felt that many would leave. I can't imagine Calipari wants to work that hard during the offseason every single year with the pressure on him to bring in a whole roster of five-star kids to replace outgoing players. I don't know a coach who doesn't value some semblance of roster continuity.

 I always did enjoy the beaches of Florence.

4 star or 5 star does it really matter. One and done ? Whatever. Cal has UK basketball at a prestige level that some coaches only dream of. Honestly UK basketball was embarassing to watch not that long ago. My hats off to Cal. Year in and year out kids want to play for this guy because he coaches them to the next level. If any one of us could of took a few million dollars over a degree is being dishonest. It feels good to be a Wildcat fan.

I'll take the talent every time. Give me 4 ***** guys every year, and I'll give you "a couple" 3-4 year guys each year, and let's see who has more success.

Bottomline, talent wins more often than not. For the life of me, I could never understand why someone would want less talented guys.

As always, I'm 100% with you on this argument.

This is hilarious. Kentucky fans can never be happy. Scream for years there isn't enough talent, finally get all the talent in the world and cry that there are too many good players.

While I understand your point about talent, consider that for the 2009-2010 season, UK possessed more talent than any other team in the nation, and yet they didn't even advance to the Final Four. I don't know much about basketball, but when I watched the UK-WV game it was clear that the UK players completely panicked when they got down by double-digits in the second half. They had tons of time to make up the point differential by playing to their strength (i.e., the inside game), and yet what did they do? They resorted to throwing up an insane number of 3-pointers, which was crazy given that long-range shooting was their offensive weakness. The big reason UK lost that game was their inexperience, in my opinion. A team with better leadership would not have reacted the way UK did in the second half of that game.

While I would prefer to have talented guys on the team (as opposed to less talented guys), I do offer this: if every year UK basically has a "brand-new" team chock full of guys who are 5-star talent but freshmen, with little upperclassman leadership (i.e., UK in 2009/2010 and apparently UK again in 2010/2011), they will not make it to many Final Fours and will not win ANY NCAA titles.

I agree inexpierience played a role in the loss, but in my opinion the biggest reason for the loss was Bob Huggins game plan. He wanted to take away cousins and patterson touches in the paint as well as second chance points, and he did. I am a huge Cal fan but on that night Huggins and his players excuted their game plan and we didn't.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the main reason we lost was because we shot 2 for 123 from 3 point range. Kudos to Huggy bear for taking away fast break points and all that, but I knew lack of shooting would eventually catch up with this team.
