Maybe the 5 star guys not coming may benefit UK.

People cant make up their mind... during the Tubby years, it was "Lets recruit the high profile/future NBA players"... now that we are getting top of the line players its "Lets recruit four year players".

We are getting the best of the best right now. Its not like we couldnt have won last year, we had a great team. Other number 1 seeds WITH experience such as KU and Syracuse lost before we did.

So you don't want Kanter or Brandon Knight? Forget about Gilchrist, Teague and half the 2011 McD's All-American team? If UK could take the 12 best guys in the country every year, and have to replace them after one season that would be perfectly fine by me. UK basketball is fun now, people care about UK basketball outside of KY, and many hate UK again. 1 and done or 5th year senior, I don't particularly care as long as they work hard and represent the state well.

What more could we want? Should we beg Orton and Bledsoe not to leave? It's their decision, and who are we to tell them not to go? Not one person on here is going to turn down a 3 year job offer that is guaranteed and brings in over 7 figures annually. And not one of us griped when Wall or Cousins or Kanter signed, or when Knight, Gilchrist and Teague committed.

Let's recruit players that don't have as much talent because they will be here longer....No one does that. By no one I mean the big guys. Duke has older players many times, but they can't recruit every kid they want because of academics. So they are limited somewhat. UNC and Kansas never turn down talent when they can get it. No matter how you recruit, you can't really predict a championship run. If the NCAA was set up like the NBA playoffs in the final 4 rounds, I would have liked UK and Kansas chances against anyone last season. Freshman, Sophomore, Senior...it doesn't matter. Alot of things have to come together for a championship run, and the most talented team ends up going out earlier than expected many years.

I agree 100%. I know I wouldn't turn down the opportunity. I just wish the NBA would go away from the rule and the NCAA/NBA would put in a 3 year window. Let the guys go overseas or JUCO if they don't want to actually go to class, make grades, and be part of the UNIVERSITY. I'd love to see actual student athletes playing major college ball.

Wait a second. I never said I didnt ant any 5* players. I wish our whole roster was 5*. What Imean is iif we get all one and dones like this year where does it leave us in the future. Plus 5* dont mean they will be great. If we can plug a few guys in that will stay and provide leadershp and experience togo along with 5* guys then that is what I feel would be best.

I'll take the talent every time. Give me 4 ***** guys every year, and I'll give you "a couple" 3-4 year guys each year, and let's see who has more success.

Bottomline, talent wins more often than not. For the life of me, I could never understand why someone would want less talented guys.

Lets see who has more success. Well what is success to UK fans. A winning season or National Championship and Final Four. I think this year with all our 4 **** guys we had success, but WVA with their less talented roster had MORE SUCCESS.

I never said get less talented guys, are you saying Stacy Poole isnt talentd enought since he is 3 stars instead of 4.

Again, this year was an aberration. To the best of my knowledge there has NEVER been 4 Freshman drafted from one team (the NBA lockout situation is playing a big factor in Orton and Bledso'e decisions I would assume). With the exception of this past year, how many one and done guys has Cal ever coached? Rose, Evans, Wagner. Anyone else? He has been extremely fortunate the past two seasons to secure the best PG in the class. Both of which were tremendous players at the collegiate level... capable enough of winning a title.

Again, what are we going to do about the need of a couple more big Man!

Go Big Blue!

we have 4 guys back on the team. Period.

We have 3 guys coming in who could be NBA bound. Knight, Kanter, Lamb. Lets say those 3 leave + harrleson (SR)

This leaves us with Hood, Miller, Liggins, Poole.

Liggins may break out and go NBA

We need some guys to stay more than 1 year.

Nothing is official on Dobson yet. Also, I don't believe Lamb will be a 1 and done player.

If he comes back, will people learn his name? DoDson.

Its not official, but I saw somewhere that Cal doesn't expect him back. Also, weren't Patterson, Rondo, Crawford and Morris all 5 star guys? Just being a 5 star guy doesn't mean you're one and done.

I didn think Orton or Bledsoe were 1 and done either.

Derrick Rose was a 5 star PG out of HS.

DeAndre Liggins was a 4 star PG out of HS.

That should show the difference...

Perry Stevenson was a 4 star...DeMarcus Cousins was a 5 star.

I'm with you. If I had my wish, Cal would bring in the top player at all 5 positions, or the 5 best players, each and every season and I'd take my chances with that.

Thats a good point. But I will be very surprised if Lamb leaves early. Look your not going to have 3 and 4 freshmen leave after 1 year every year.

You want talented players, but, you do have to have some "glue guys". These are the three and four star players who play roles and provide leadership over the long haul.

Dont tell that to UKMUSTANGFAN.

There will be that many again in the 2011 class...
