May 7, 201016 yr I don't know how serious they are about enforcing it as a whole, but I know a handful of Ft. Wright residents - all males of course - who had patrolling police officers inform them that they had to put their shirts back on when they had been cutting the grass without a shirt on (in their own yards). One of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of.
May 7, 201016 yr My guess is that in 1950 folks said "We'll never see women wearing (fill in with anything you see women wearing today)." Secondly, you've stated the obvious that they wanted to cause a stir. That's what all protests are designed to do. That doesn't mean its not worthy of consideration. MLK wanted to cause a stir. Susan B Anthony wanted to cause a stir. No stir = no change. Are you really comparing what Martin Luther King did with this?
May 7, 201016 yr Are you really comparing what Martin Luther King did with this? Yes, he is. Sure, the issues don't compare well in their significance...but the concept of challenging something and causing a stir is absolutely comparable. Similarly, whether you're paying for a car or paying for your lunch, there's still an exchange of money - they're both still a sale. They aren't necessarily on the same scale, but they are certainly comparable.

I'm sorry, but even though you are trying to talk technically and all that stuff, black citizens fighting for equal rights is not the same as women fighting for the right to be topless.

And I don't think he was trying to say it was the same...he was just using other examples to make a point, and I don't see what the problem was in doing so. Should people stop using figures of speech as well, seeing as I've never known anyone to actually throw out any babies with bathwater, cut off their nose despite their face, or shoot themselves in the foot? I suppose comparing people's everyday actions to those scenarios is completely preposterous and should be laughed at as well.

May 7, 201016 yr If I'm forced to wear a shirt on a hot summer day, then my friends died face down in the dirt for absolutely nothing. What happend to his country? Foolish, ugly women like the ones in that picture up there certainly hasn't helped it.
May 7, 201016 yr Touching a man's chest is not sexual abuse. Touching a woman's breast can be. Double standard? If these women want to remove the double standard, then they also need to be comfortable not being able to do anything about having their breasts touched, and I'd be willing to bet they are not. Fact of the matter is, the standard was created centuries ago when breasts were deemed sexual and therefore in need of covering. If women don't want them to be sexual anymore, fine, but the sword cuts both ways.
May 7, 201016 yr It may be a little out of place but I am going to share a line from 30 Rock last night. One of the characters was in the middle of a boob job, so one breast was obviously bigger, rounder and higher on her chest and the other breast was ... well just hanging there lifelessly we'll say. So the character makes Alec Baldwin grab each breast and he says, "One feels like a cantalope and the other feels like a ziplock bag filled with mushroom soup." The situation and his delivery of the line had me and my wife rolling for the next 15 minutes.

I don't think so, nor could you do it to a women if they were topless. Get real, invade anyones space without their permission male or female and you have a big problem. Most women have no desire to go topless in public so it will never become an acceptable norm. Majority always seem to rule in matters of such titilating concern. To my knowledge topless do's and don'ts are controlled by local ordinances. In Miami Beach women roam topless in very public areas all the time without issue. We have a double standard because the public at large want to have a double standard.
May 7, 201016 yr ^ When I saw that you had made the last post, I assumed that there would be pictures. Oh, well.

You missed the point. He said that they were just trying to cause a stir. ALL groups for WHATEVER reason they are standing up for do this. THAT's the point. Its like saying "they wanted attention."
