Somebody told me there was an altercation in the game between the Tarheels and Hoops Elite. Anybody have details?

 

Hoop Elite team #17 was ejected for kicking a Tarheel player while he was down on the floor under the basket. Very dirty and there is no excuse for behavior like that in a game. It was worse than the famous Laettner stomp. Things got heated after that, and coaches were exchanging words. It was ugly for about 5 minutes, then the game resumed. IMO, the Hoops Elite team was very frustrated due to some really good defense, and they lost their composure.

A lot of the other top players in the state where playing in Akron, OH at the King James Classic. I still think the Tar Heels would have been the team to beat, but I would guess that they had an easy time based on some of the people I saw playing in Akron who where not in Lexington.

 

I know the KY Elite Kings played in the KJC, but who else are you referring to? Can you provide teams and players?

I don't know who he is specifically referring to, but I heard from someone who was down there with his older son that some of last year's 13U Ky Elite from Lexington (Grundy, Snoop Johnson, Ware) were in Nashville playing 15U for Charlotte Court. And, I know a couple of kids from Louisville (Snider and a couple of Louisville Legends) were playing 15U for Royal Family in Louisville.

 

I said it in another post, I think the Tarheels would have been the favorite anyway and I expect them to do very well at nationals, but for some reason this year a lot of 14U kids in KY didn't play in Lexington this past weekend.

I know two of the Legends top players were there. Forgive my spelling, but there was big kid named Keilen (sp?) playing for Focus. Very good ball player, and Craig was playing for the River City Celtics. I believe both of these players are Legends. I think Jackson Davis was also there playing for Hoops. Perhaps everyone will be there in a few weeks for the U15 State Tournament. I believe the Tarheels will be there.

Hatton and McNeil may be the two best spot up shooters, in this age group, in the state. Jaylen Avery can handle the ball like a beast and McCormick is a monster and driving/slashing to the basket and can knock down the open jumper with ease. If McCormick is guarding you, you are going to have a very, very, long offensive day.

IMO, coaches should not have ANY thing to say to opposing players during a game.

Opposing coaches talking to the other team is never good during a game. In fact, I'd recommend that they never talk to mine.

I witnessed the incident. I will say I can't blame him for his reaction. The coach was cursing at Hatton using in appropriate language and threw a basketball at him. Hatton's dad went after him across the basketball game during play. However they did not kick him out, he was allowed to stay due to the nature of the incident and the coach being in the wrong for his behavior.

Now I would like to know more about the incident. Did Hatton do something to this coach's son, or one of the other members of the team? Or, was the coach just upset that his team couldn't contain Hatton and they were getting beat up pretty good?

 

Either way, to me it sounds like another example where kids sports are becoming too 'life or death' so to speak, and the fun is being sucked out of the game.

You could be thinking about a game with Scott High School. I think the kid got knocked silly on a reportedly legal screen and the kid's dad went out onto the floor.

Jaylen Avery will also be attending Holmes. He's the younger brother of former Holmes' pg's Braeon and BJ Avery.

 

Jalen is the cousin of those two.
