I do know for a fact that Ben is not too highly regarded in Pittsburgh lately. The Rooney's are not the family you want to cross. They take care of their people(for life) and if they are listening to open offers, then he is no longer one of their people.

COMMISSIONER ROGER GOODELL notified Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER today that he:

1) must undergo a comprehensive behavioral evaluation by medical professionals and

2) will be suspended without pay for the first six games of the regular season for conduct detrimental to the NFL in violation of the league's Personal Conduct Policy.

Not sure if he has but the Alumni/Family of the Pittsburgh Steelers are a little concerned right now. I really don't think it's going to be up to Mike Tomlin at this point....IMO!:idunno:

Well, the Rooneys in general don't put up with too much funny business. Shipping Holmes out when he's on the cusp of stardom should tell you that. My guess is that when Roethlisberger signed that contract extension there were behavior stipulations in there that he has, obviously, failed to live up to. That they've invested as much time and money in him as they have is probably the only reason he's not already long gone.

 

In fairness, Holmes has been on the cusp for a couple of years. In that case, I think there was reason to believe he was never going to emerge into the guy who was Super Bowl MVP on a weekly basis.

 

But, your point is noted. If any team would be willing to deal a franchise QB (who has helped your team win two Super Bowls), the Steelers are the first team to come to mind.

"The Personal Conduct Policy makes clear that I may impose discipline even where the conduct does not result in conviction of a crime as, for example, where the conduct imposes inherent danger to the safety and well being of another person," Mr. Goodell stated in his letter.

"As the district attorney concluded, the extensive investigatory record shows that you contributed to the irresponsible consumption of alcohol by purchasing (or facilitating the purchase of) alcoholic beverages for underage college students, at least some of whom were likely already intoxicated.

"There is no question that the excessive consumption of alcohol that evening put the students and yourself at risk. The Personal Conduct Policy also states that discipline is appropriate for conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players. By any measure, your conduct satisfies that standard."

Oh good Lord! Can you imagine? Big Ben got in trouble this last time in a college town. Can you imagine his shenanigan potential in California?! :eek:

Fair? Too much? Did Ben get a longer suspension than he may have otherwise because the NFL didn't want to open themselves up to criticism for showing partiality...or worse, being racist?

Would you trade a top 10 pick for Ben Roethlisberger?

 

If I needed a QB, yes. Why pay a top 10 QB millions of guaranteed dollars not having taken one snap from center in the NFL if you can get a QB with 2 SB rings and the proven ability to make plays. This could be a fresh start for Big Ben.

As a life-long Steeler fan, I think the suspension was fair and right. I also would like to be Ben gone, the sooner the better. This guy has a problem. IMO he should be a registered sex-offender.

A person could go to the bars every single weekend, find the drunkest, easiest target girl, and take her home everytime, and he legally is doing nothing wrong. Is it morally wrong? Most definitely, but they don't make you register as a sex-offender for having no morals or probably in his case, no standards.
