April 21, 201016 yr Depends on your situation. A team like Kansas City, I would. They have a solid running game, quality WRs, just need someone to get them the ball. A team like St. Louis or Cleveland who have a ton of holes, no chance. I don't think I'd deal a top 10 pick for him regardless of who my team was. I'm not convinced Big Ben would be the QB you'd be expecting in a different situation. He holds on to the ball too long, takes a lot of sacks...he hasn't been that great statistically in his career. What he is is a guy who makes plays in the clutch to win close games. That's a good combination in P'burgh where their defense, when healthy, will keep them in most games and Ben can make the plays to win at the end. That may not translate as well as you'd need to justify a high price tag, IMO. I'd want to be sure he was a good fit for my team before making a deal for him. That's not even considering any concerns you may have about him off the field. :idunno:

Nothing about what they're asking for. Bill Simmons had a good point in his mock draft artcile today. Why wouldn't Oakland do it? Their owner likes talent and takes big gambles and their fan base wouldn't be as angry as Pittsburgh's fan base at the actions.

Their owner likes talent and takes big gambles and their fan base wouldn't be as angry as Pittsburgh's fan base at the actions. And, they like to throw the ball down the field...to WR's who are freakish athletes, but rarely live up to their potential. Ben has a big arm, and even though he takes a lot of sacks, he keeps a lot of plays alive. Could be a good fit.
April 21, 201016 yr Argument goes both ways, may be better with better OL. Certainly true. It wouldn't surprise me. I just think it could be a risk. He's not a prototypical QB with his style of play, and guys like that don't always translate to any situation. I may be wrong, but that's what I'd be thinking if I were a GM.

There's no doubt that he's worth that to Pittsburgh. Maybe there's more to their relationship than even what we've heard in the news (motorcycle crash, assault charges, etc) and they've just reached their breaking point. But, he doesn't come off to me as a Pac-Man Jones type who you'd be crazy to give another chance. I think they should keep him... ... ...on a short leash!

Well, the Rooneys in general don't put up with too much funny business. Shipping Holmes out when he's on the cusp of stardom should tell you that. My guess is that when Roethlisberger signed that contract extension there were behavior stipulations in there that he has, obviously, failed to live up to. That they've invested as much time and money in him as they have is probably the only reason he's not already long gone.
