BK Making Changes at ND

Featured Replies

FutureCoach I'm done arguing with you. No one in their right mind would think that the caliber of player ND has brought in the last 5 years is equal to that of UF, Bama, OSU, USC or other teams like that.

Could a better coach get more out of them? No doubt. But, all things equal Florida has infinitely better players than ND has. Don't see too many instant impact freshman on the national level at Notre Dame. Yeah I forgot they have guys just like Tebow and Percy Harvin or Jeff Demps as freshmen. Those kind of guys would shine no matter who the coach was considering true freshman do not even have a full year in the system.

This is a ridiculous argument and no one in the world is going to agree with you that Notre Dame has the same amount of talent as the programs mentioned. They don't, and I don't care what the recruiting rankings say, common sense tells me differently. There are better coaches than Weis and they could have done more with the talent they had last year, but the fact of the matter is that team was not championship material no matter who coached it. I'm done with this irrational conversation.

Did I say they brought in the same level of talent? I said they brought in talent that was right below them. Go back in the previous post and you will see that.

Once again you only look at what you see in front of you. Yes your right the team of players right now, is not championship material. If they had a coach who knew how to coach them up as soon as they got to college, then we might be saying something different. It is so easy for you to say right now that they are not championship material, because looking at what they became it is easy to say that. You nor me knows how good some of the players could have been if they had a coach who was better at coaching them up. Most of those players were talented enough to make them a top 5 or 10 ten recruiting class for the last 3 or 4 years. So you would think that should have at least enabled them to be maybe a top 15 or top 10 team in at least one or two of those years. They had brought in talented enough players where that could have happened. However no matter how talented they were coming in, they still need to get coached up to show that talent and get even better. That didn't happen under Weis. Instead guys who were not as good as some of these guys coming out of high school, are now better than those players because they actually got coached up. They have brought in talented enough players where if they had a coach who could have coached them up, they very well could have been a top 10 or 15 team. So yes I am glad your done with this conversation, because I am quite tired of this too.

All I'm going to say is that I don't buy the Star rankings system or class rankings as a whole. Rivals or ESPN may tell me that ND has the 4th best class in 2006 but that obviously wasn't the case in reality. With that kind of talent no one would be able to lose to Navy or someone like that. Like I said before those sites want to make money, and big name teams having big classes and recruits gets more people to visit the site. Maybe not in the top 50-100, but how could anyone realistically rank kids after that anyway? It's not like basketball where there is AAU, so it's an imperfect science at best IMO.

Recruiting rankings for football are as useless as anything in all of sports...

:thumb: Perfect example look at UC and ND this year and then look at who had the higher recruiting rankings.

That is true. He is one of the very few guys on here that I would say is right more than he is wrong. Other than him and a few others, most of the people on here including me and you seem to be wrong more than right on a lot of our opinions and predictions. So that is why there is no reason to give in to someone else's opinion, because a lot of times that person is not right either. Just because I might argue with you though, doesn't mean I don't respect what your saying even if I dont agree. We all have our own opinions.:thumb:

True. I just hate BK's Notre Dame because I feel Weis got sort of a raw deal due to what was left with him in the classes below Brady Quinn.

Football rankings are so much more of a crapshoot because one can not accurately say how kids will physically mature in 3+ years. In hoops, if you can ball, you can ball. The physical and mental maturation do not mean as much. With that said, I would much rather take my chances with 5, 5 star guys over 5, 3 star guys. :D Notre Dame was closer to the former and was losing to Navy who had 0 of these types.

No doubt about being left garbage below Quinn's class. There just was not enough improvement shown with his guys. They were just physically whipped too many times up front. Some of the skill players developed fine.

Yeah, but Weis is not the kind of guy for the ND job. Let me first say I wanted CW to be successful at ND. But look at the big picture. Sure Weis had a great offense, probably could score with anyone in the country last year, but one, he didn't and never developed a running game, and two, he didn't and never had a good defense. You need both of those, IMO, to win in South Bend. He never won the big game.

He had his chances man. Last three seasons:

3-9

7-6

6-6

That won't allow you to keep your job in most places around the country, let alone ND. Plus like I said before: Weis isn't ND head coach material. Same reasons why BGC wasn't it at UK. The more Swarbrick waited, the more his seat got hot.

Fire CW was the right thing. If he couldn't do any better than 6-6 with last years team, against the schedule they played, then he didn't deserve to stay.

The 3-9 and 7-6 season shouldn't even count against him because of who he had to start in key areas. He never had a running game because ND's line was so depleted by Willingham's lack of signing linemen. His defense struggled because Notre Dame just cannot get enough good athletes because of location and academic standards IMO. I think Weis should have got at least one more year, but I don't blame Notre Dame for firing him. It's just a matter of personal preference for me.

I understand your point. Sam Young is a good example though. He was suppose to be a stud, started all 4 years for Weis, and was better his freshman year than his senior year. Weis just couldn't develop players outside of the QB, TE, and WR positions.

I heard ND didn't have a training table for the athletes before BK got there??? If true, that could be a MAJOR reason why the "big uns" didn't develop. Proper diet helps retain and gain weight that is needed to battle in the trenches...especially during the season.
