UK fans have seen Mike Hartline and Morgan Newton both play and they have not been particularly impressed with their performances. Therefore, Kentucky fans are rooting for Ryan Mossakowski to be the starter. I can't see this happening.

 

UK fans can't see the Cats winning ballgames with Mike Hartline at quarterback because they have not seen how much improvement this kid has made. I would ask for doubters to come to the scrimmage on Saturday morning or the spring game on April 24th and see for yourself how much this kid has improved.

 

I have not been named Mike Hartline's press agent and I am not endorsing him as a Heisman candidate for 2010, but he has improved to the point where he is capable of winning ballgames under center as the Kentucky quarterback in 2010.

 

I apologize to some of you who don't want him to play. Many people didn't want Andre Woodson to play after his dismal freshman and sophomore seasons, but things were different the next two seasons, weren't they?

 

Let's face it, the whole team was horrible and injury plagued those two seasons, and at least you could see signs of hope for Woodson. Now that the team is actually respectable, we have noone to throw the ball. Ouch.

It's amazing to me that as a Kentucky fan you boo and harp about a kid’s performance but yet we don't realize that these are young men that are learning. UK has a shot to win if the O-Line blocks, the receivers run good routes & catch the ball if thrown to the (make a play) and the ball is delivered in the window. Not every recruit will be a NFL draft or free agent, but with the coaching staff working hard, coaching harder and out scheming opponents and big plays, No matter who the QB is.

I agree with your frustration. I will give all of the players time to grow during the off-season. Let's see where we are as the 10-11 season approaches.

Actually, I remember posters just ripping Woodson those first two years. Hindsight is always 20/20, but he was not getting a lot of love on here, or anywhere for that matter. Except, ... from the coaching staff.

He did look better last year until he got hurt (except for the UF game, but nobody for UK showed much in that one). And when he got hurt in the SC game, he was playing MUCH better.

 

The coaches will put the guy on the field they believe has the best chance to win. They believed in Woodson and his 3rd season, he really turned the corner. I don't see Hartline or any of the QBs having that kind of season as they do not have the weapons that Andre had at that time.

:thumb: I think this year, with Cobb as a wiley veteran and the emergence of some of the younger WRs, whomever the QB is will have a much better corps of WR's to catch the ball.

Do you think there was a good group of receivers to catch the ball year before last? There is a lot more to a good passing game than just having a QB that can sling it 60 yards. Hartline passed for over 1600 yards with a group of receivers that would not have started anywhere in the SEC.

That's a name I haven't heard in quite some time. Blast from the past!

Hartline does not have the arm to be a starter in the SEC IMO. I also question his leadership abilities when he got benched for Cobb and he threw EVERYONE ELSE under the bus. I have a hard time seeing UK as being more than a doormat for the SEC if Hartline is the man.

 

I also wonder how much this matters because we heard this same stuff when Woodson was passed up by Pulley in the spring. We all know how that worked out. I also question how much confidence the coaching staff has in Hartline. We all heard about how he was ready for the bowl game and he played the same number of snaps as I did. I know Brooks was in charge then, but I bet if Joker had really wanted Hartline on the field he would have got him in some.

 

I wish UK the best of luck and will be pulling for them, but I do not think Hartline is the answer. Of course Joker may know more football than me.
