It was August 1973. The whole family went for a mini vacation in Cincinnati. It was two Reds games, and then Kings Island. The first night, my first ever Reds game the Reds beat the Phillies 15-3. I remember being in awe as we first walked into the stadium. Don Gullett pitched, and Joe Morgan hit a Grand Slam, and a 3 run homer in back to back innings. The next night Fred Norman blanked the Phillies as the Reds won 7-0.

I used to love the 70s Pirates lineup. However, I don't remember "Alley."

Gene Alley played for the Bucs about a decade, beginning in the early sixties. He played 100+ games at short for the Pirates in '71. I think he batted around .250 for his career.

You are correct, sir. Likewise, when I played my make believe games, Rennie Stennett was always my Pirate second baseman. I usually think of Dave Cash( the starting 2B for the Bucs at my '71 game)as a Phillie.

My first Reds game Sept.12 1985, my sister & brother-in -law took me ,it was my birthday, the reds were`nt very good that year , Pete Rose just came back as playr/manager ,mine & my sister`s favorite player was pitching Mario Soto, got to sit in 2nd row on 3rd base side on the field.Reds beat the Giants that night, & the reds had just brought up a young phenom that hit a homer (may have been his first) off the front of the red seats in left field his name Eric Davis.Like everyone else I was just in awe of the stadium & turf ,scoreboard, & I`ve been hooked ever since ,absolutely love going to Reds games.

I remember that as if it was yesterday. I was almost 13 years old. His line for that day was

The Bucs beat the Cubs in Wrigley that day(9/16/75) by a score of 22-0. The Pirates scored 9 in the first. Rick Reushel's ERA that day was 216(he gave up 8 earnies in a third of an inning).

 

There were less than 5,000 fans in the stands that day to see one of the most impressive batting feats in MLB history.

 

Stennett had a pretty solid little Major League career.

My first game was at Crosley, I'm guessing it was in 1969. I remember the popcorn holders were megaphones and that the ice cream sticks had different baseball players inside the ice cream. I think Lee May hit one out of the stadium that night.

My Grandpa took me to Riverfront...we went to a Saturday night game and then a Sunday game against the Dodgers. We definitely lost them both lol.

It was against the Pittsburg Pirates in Riverfront. 1970's. Willie Stargell was playing for the Pirates at the time. I think the Reds won, but I was a kid and just remember that I had a good time!

It was Deion Sanders first game as a Red. I do not remember the game as much as remember being at the airport gate when he arrived in Cincy the day before. I was the first kid he saw and only one around while he was being interviewed and he shafted me for the autograph request.

My dad took me and my cousin we stopped at Rinks on the way home and got him a bat with Carl Yatrzemski's signature. A darn good day !

I believe it was 1978...went to Three Rivers to see the Reds play the Pirates with my mom and grandpa. I remember the Reds lost, but still had a good time. My only souvenir was one of those plastic batting helmets (a Reds one, of course). Still have it to this day!

 

As to Da Champ ... I too have a bat with Yaz's signature on it! (But probably about 1975 or so)
