I thought you had said he lost it while he was still in college.

He did. I still don't understand why. Only Humana knows for sure.

Can't see how premiums won't go up. Just the pre-existing conditions clause alone will result in higher premiums.

I had a Dr. tell me last week that eliminating pre-existing conditions was the most dangerous part of HCR. Without pre-existing condition exclusions, he said, the carriers wouldn't be able to properly underwrite the risk and would fail, then the government would take over health care. (which, he claimed, was the Dem objective.) If this is true, then why are the republicans generally in favor of eliminating pre-existing condition exclusions?

(As an aside, a few minutes before he espoused the opinion stated above, he criticized the Dems for being incompetent governors who couldn't put an effective policy in place if their lives depended on it. Though, it seems like the sinister plan he attributed to the Dems, if true, would actually be pretty effective at accomplishing the goal he though they were striving for.)

With the number of Dems (including Obama, Pelosi and Yarmuth just to name a few off the top of my head) that I know are on the record supporting a single payor system do you really believe that it is such a reach to believe their ultimate objective is to force a national takeover of health insurance. Before the GM and Chrysler takeovers how many people would have believed that the Feds would take over a large part of the auto industry?

I just read through this thread and I have to say this is the most intelligent political discussion I have seen in perhaps forever (excluding post #38). I think anyone who reads this thread and still thinks the health care bill is bad just isn't open to reasonable thought.

Yes, I am very happy with Obama. In the face of one of the most heated, negative battles we have ever seen, he was able to accomplish what almost every president since Teddy Roosevelt sought - health care reform. He overcame Republican roadblocks at every turn, non-stop bashing by the radical right media and misled Americans in the Tea Party movement to make good on one of his primary campaign promises. The American people elected Obama in large part because of his promise for health care reform. I applaud him for being able to make that promise come true.

On the bi-partisan front, Obama is making every effort within reason to reach out to Republicans and engage in dialogue and compromise, but his offers are met with derision. If you are a Republican, you need to get control over your party back. You have lost your way and are in danger of becoming exactly what the Dems are labeling you as - the party of NO.

When Bush invaded Iraq, I had no doubt and told many that we would be there for years. Republicans led by VP Cheney promised we would be out in a couple of years. I was right then and I will make another prediction now. This health care bill will come to be praised by the vast majority and will be a cornerstone in Obama's re-election. I also predict this bill and how it was handled by both parties will be decisive in this fall's elections but not like Republicans believe today - it will be decisively against the current party of NO and in favor of Democrats who finally showed us all that Congress is capable of action with the right leadership.

Yes, I am very happy with Obama! I can't wait to see him in action with health care behind him as he gets totally focused on the economy and jobs. If anything can happen to help there, he will make it happen.

You guys keep talking about Obama reaching out to Repbulicans in a bi-partisian effort and I keep wondering what dream world you are living in. He has done NOTHING to include republicans in anything. He has yet to pass on an opportunity to take a shot at the right or to point fingers at the republicans. He hasn't kept any of his promises of "change" and this health care bill will go down as one of the worst things in this coutry's history ever. It's an entitlement program plain and simple and stepping stone to the left's long term agenda of a single payer governement run health insurance.

This thread has done nothing to change my opinion on the bill and if you think that means I am not open to reasonable thought then so be it. But your entire post leads me to believe you could never believe anything Obama does is wrong. If you think this bill will lead the Dems to victory you obvioulsy haven't looked at any polls. The majority of Americans do not want this and I only pray they voice their displeasure of it in Nov.

:thumb: The only thing bipartisan about this bill is the opposition to it.

Newest poll says 49% of Americans think it is good, while 40% think its bad. Right now that is a win for the Pres.

This thread is absurd. Why would you ask a question like that? If someone was an Obama supporter from the beginning what do you think the answer would be?

It's like asking what color grass is and being shocked when you are told it's green.

Newest poll says 49% of Americans think it is good, while 40% think its bad. Right now that is a win for the Pres.

Newest poll says 54% oppose. That's a loss for the Pres.

Polls are going to be all over the place for a while as people find out what's in the details. That could take a while.

Let's see what the polls say in several years, if it makes it that far.

As much as I hate to say it I'm afraid we're stuck with this albatross. Even WHEN the majorities switch hands in November Lord BHO will be there with his veto pen to take care of any repeal.

What about the public conference that Obama invited the Republicans to? I know, I know .... that was just a propaganda move and all show. But if I were the Republicans, I would have used that opportunity to really put Obama on his heels. I would have brought out my best alternative proposal and made Obama answer tough questions on it. You see, the thing is the Republicans are more interested in finding ways to use this bill to try and win an election instead of trying to be statesmen and pass some legislation Americans considered of the utmost importance.

You can not deny the fact that in the Obama/McCain race the American people spoke loud and clear that they wanted health care reform. What did the Republican party do during this entire debate except be as obstructionist as possible?

The Republican party has lost its way and is losing all of us voters as a result. That is why the Democrats have control. I don't want more Republican name calling, labeling, pretending anyone with an opposing view point is a liberal, ranting fear mongering, etc. The Republicans need to move beyond "you're a liberal", "government is horrible", and holier than though dogma. Stop using promises of tax cuts in every election as a way to bribe me to vote for you. Sure I want tax cuts but also tell me how are you going to reduce government so the deficit doesn't grow. I don't want tax cuts without thought like GW put in place and then watch our country go broke. Stop being parasites and latching on to issues that generate public fear to rally around. We are all looking for solutions to problems not whiners. I just am not seeing any solutions and proposals from Republicans right now.

The polls in September and thereafter will be very different than what they are now. There are already polls showing the public opinion is changing and people are glad a health care bill was passed. When we get to November and the vast majority of us see no negative effect of this bill and many of us see positive results, opinions of this bill will be much more positive.

What positive results do you expect to see by November?

What positive results do you expect to see by November?

The biggest positive result will be many uninsured who are currently unable to get insurance will be able to get coverage. Medicare drug beneficiaries will get a rebate that will help close the "doughnut hole" in prescription drug coverage. Some small businesses will receive a tax credit to help them provide coverage. But perhaps most importantly as it pertains to public opinion, those of us who currently have coverage will see no change ... and that will be a big positive in public perception of the bill. That is why I believe when Novemebr rolls around everyone will say what is so bad about the bill. They will see all the good stories of people who were facing financial disaster and were rescued by this bill. I will be very surprised if this bill doesn't have a lot of positive support by the time November gets here.
