Has anyone ever seen what type of insurance people are purchasing? I have a great insurance and pay roughly $150 a month for it but I also only have a $30 copay and no deductibles for hospitals/surgeries. The only deductible I have is for MRI/ultrasounds/x-rays (only have to pay it once for any 3) and a $75 deductible for ERs. I like my insurance but I also work my butt off for it.

Just like most of the 88% of people in this country do!!! Just another unsustainable entitlement program that the rest us and our kids will have to pay for in order to support the 10%. Good insurance is worth every penny and cost is only an issue in the absence of value. I am pleased with the value that I receive for what I pay.

Being a full time student, yeah I don't see anything blocking you. Full time students now can generally stay on there parents insurance till mid 20's. This bill will relax it even more. My guess is the only problem you may run into is will you still be in school when you hit 27...

 

I don't believe I would be. Only two more years most likely. Another question is would you have to be a full-time student, or could you just stay on your parents until you turn 26 regardless?

Still waiting on the fine print for that one... the current system usually covers kids in school only so I am wondering if this will do both.

Coverage of kids: Parents will be allowed to keep their children on their health insurance plan until age 26, unless the child is eligible for coverage through a job.

 

 

 

Supposedly that part of the bill is going to be in effect by the end of this year.

Let me ask this:

 

Everyone thinks this will drive doctors to get out of practice. Why?

 

Next question, the shortage on doctors can attributed to a lot of things, but the cost of attending medical school is one prohibitive factor, and the 2nd is the cost of malpractice insurance. The shortage existed before this bill passed. Why try to blame it on the bill?

I can only tell you this. I have a brother-in-law that is a doctor, we were discussing this the other day. He told me quite a few of the doctors he knows want no part of an intrusive government getting their grubby paws on health care or health insurance and that they said they would retire if this bill passed. He himself is kicking the idea around.

 

On your second question, I'd say the cost of malpractice insurance is a much bigger reason and naturally this administration will do nothing to correct that.

That sounds right because the current system is already designed for students, so that would only make sense.

And many many that don't feel like it necessary, but with the passing of this bill people lose their right to choose(without penalty) whether or not they have health insurance.

Alot of these things don't look to be scheduled to go into effect for a few years, just a heads up. President Obama wants to try to get re-elected before his health care system can fail.

So essentially this should help students from families who are well off enough that they don't have to work while they go to school, or students that are willing to go into large debt in order to get through college. Not those who would like to try to work their way through college, aka a working class student. Interesting.
